We are the Australian Chapter of WePlanet. Citizens movement working to liberate nature & elevate Humanity.
Did you know nuclear power plants can run continuously for years? Darlington Unit 1 holds the world record: 1,106 days of continuous clean electricity before shutting down for scheduled maintenance. As we electrify more of our economy, reliable 24/7 clean energy will only become more important.
Data centres are a hot topic right now. The tension is between the important role data centres play as the backbone of our modern society and their environmental impacts, especially their water and energy use. We believe Australia can get the balance right with appropriate regulations.
Our oceans have absorbed more than 90% of the excess heat from global warming. If climate change were a household budget, we've been overspending and we've put more than 90% of that debt on the ocean credit card. This warming is changing our oceans & the climate systems they help regulate.
Food innovation means we can now produce the same proteins found in milk, eggs & other foods without raising & slaughtering animals. It can reduce emissions & zoonotic disease, free up land for nature, cut water use, & improve animal welfare, all while giving people the foods they already enjoy.
Nuclear energy is one of the safest & cleanest forms of energy generation available to humanity. It's time to overturn Australia's outdated ban on nuclear energy. Act now: act.weplanet.org/p/overturn-a...
Plug-in photovoltaics, aka "balcony solar", allow households to access solar power without expensive or complicated rooftop installations. Solar and consumer energy expert Glen Morris will provide a presentation and Q&A at our July monthly meeting. RSVP: www.weplanetaustralia.org/event-detail...
Should Australia allow new data centres? Comment below with your thoughts. They power the digital tools we use every day — from streaming and Canva to AI. But rapid growth raises real questions about electricity demand, water use and local impacts. We’re preparing our recommendations.
That is what too many anti-nuclear campaigners leave out. They quote AEMO when it suits them. But AEMO’s plan still relies on gas being available when renewables are not generating enough power.
Australia’s official energy pathway has never really been “renewables alone”. It has been renewables backed by gas. Gas for when the wind drops. Gas for when the sun disappears. Gas for when the grid needs firm power fast.
People are acting shocked that Labor is opening the door to more gas exploration. But @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social said the quiet part out loud back in 2023: “We’re not going to do nuclear, that leaves gas.” That was not a slip. That was the plan.
A majority of Aussies support nuclear energy! Polling commissioned by WePlanet Australia last month shows that a majority of Australians support developing nuclear energy in Australia. Nuclear energy provides 24/7 clean, reliable, and affordable energy independent of the weather or season.
Lifecycle assessments, which including everything from mining to waste management, show that nuclear has the lowest environmental impact of any energy source. We wouldn't advocate for something that wasn't good for people and nature. Source: unece.org/sed/document...
The future of food is here! Countries around the world are grappling with this future. Some are choosing to reject innovation, while others are embracing it and its benefits. Join us this evening to hear about what it could mean for Australia. Register: www.weplanetaustralia.org/event-detail...

We all know about Chornobyl. Don't we? Forty years on, the science tells a very different story to the one anti-nuclear groups have been selling since 1986. The ecology. The cancer data. The exclusion zone. The actual death toll. It's not what you think. www.weplanetaustralia.org/post/forty-y...
There are over 8 billion reasons in this photo to protect our home.
Join us this evening to discuss the future of food. RSVP: www.weplanetaustralia.org/event-detail...
From small things, big things grow! Our first uni club stall held at Monash Uni today. Join us to fight for the best possible future for Australia: www.weplanetaustralia.org/community-si...
Join us for our April community meeting where we will discuss how making meat from cells lets us enjoy the foods we know and love without the animal welfare, public health & environmental impacts of existing animal agriculture. Everyone welcome. RSVP: www.weplanetaustralia.org/event-detail...
MONASH GET HYPED!!!! Next week on Thursday the 26th of March we have a Free Taste Testing Stall for lab grown froie gras at Campus Centre Clayton. The next meeting of our Monash WePlanet uni club is on the 1st of April at noon in room G40 in Bld 75.
Aussie dairy producer associations are pushing to ban plant-based dairy alternatives from using the term 'milk', following a UK court ruling which found it could confuse consumers. 🧵
⚡ Australia's fuel vulnerability is real. EVs are part of the solution. Australia holds approximately 25 days of fuel reserves, and we import 80–90% of our liquid fuels, leaving us highly exposed to global shocks.
With fresh conflict in the Middle East likely to push fuel prices even higher, and too many people stuck commuting in car-centric cities, cost-of-living pressures will squeeze households further. 🧵
If you want to reduce the environmental footprint of your diet, switching to plant-based milk alternatives is a good option. The good news for dairy lovers is that we can now make precision-fermented dairy which is biologically identical to cow dairy but with a fraction of environmental impact.
Nuclear and renewables are far, far safer than fossil fuels. That's it, that's the post.
New research led by Dr Laura Manenti at UNSW has found that parts of Sydney around Glebe and Surry Hills naturally emit radiation over 2,000 times higher than the exposure from living within 50km of a nuclear power station. 🧵
The variable renewables story is more complex than headlines and impressive milestones make out. This week, variable wind and solar peaked at an impressive 73% of demand — yet despite having an installed capacity close to the highest peak demand, they also dropped as low as 11%.
Nuclear power output reached a new record high in 2025! This will only continue to rise with 28 countries pledging to triple nuclear capacity by 2050, and major tech companies investing in new nuclear to power data centres.
Nuclear weapons offer false security as their use, intentional or accidental, could end life on Earth as we know it. Humanity has already faced a number of close calls that nearly led to a nuclear exchange. All nations must commit to universal nuclear weapon disarmament.
