Hello Wafflers! Welcome to another week here on Planet Earth. It is Monday the 3rd of August, which is, of course, Watermelon Day!

Refreshing, hydrating and gloriously dribbly. The sort of fruit that says, "Yes, it is warm. Yes, you are wilting. Here, have a slice of chilled happiness."

And what has this to do with Waffle? Well, watermelon wakes up the body. Waffle wakes up the brain. One cools you down; the other fires up the little cogs, bringing hesitation, revelation, celebration and the occasional mutter of, "How is that not the word?"

So today, dear Wafflers, stay hydrated. Slice boldly. Shuffle wisely. Pop the kettle back on and have a go at this week's Deluxe Waffle. And, for you stylish lot still riding a watermelon sugar high, let the archives stretch ahead like a never-ending summer picnic.

Hello Wafflers! Welcome to another week here on Planet Earth. It is Monday the 27th of July, which is, of course, Sleepy Head Day!

Yes indeed! A gloriously drowsy, duvet-clutching occasion, with roots in Finland, where the last person to wake was declared the household sleepyhead. Tradition even involved waking the late-riser with water, which feels rather dramatic before breakfast.

Here at Waffle, we prefer a gentler awakening: a cup of tea, a stretch, a small blink into the morning light and then, naturally, a Waffle. Because Waffle is not merely a game. It is a gentle alarm clock for the mind. The letters shuffle, the greens gleam and, somewhere deep inside the sleepy noggin, a little cog turns and says, "Wait a minute….. I know where that goes!"

Dear Wafflers, that's your lot: the World Cup has crowned its champions and Spain lift the trophy in style.

All patient passing and inevitable brilliance right to the final whistle. There's something rather fitting about a nation that gave the world the letter "ñ" also giving the world a masterclass in precision.

But spare a thought for the rest of us, because that means thirty-nine evenings built around kick-off times have suddenly, gloriously, opened back up, starting with tonight.

Thank goodness for geeks. Where would we be without them? You might even say that Mr Waffle himself is a bit of a geek for creating Waffle and finding such fun in developing, experimenting with and fiddling around with code.

And it doesn't stop there. One Word Search, Stackdown, Lettergrams, Number Waffle... All these little games, all these daily rituals, all these carefully crafted moments of "Aha!" and "No, wait, hang on.."

A truly marvellous day for romantic puzzle enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever completed a Waffle so wonderfully it deserves a "chef's kiss".

Six words. Ten swaps. Mwah! Magnificent. The sort of thing that makes you want to kiss the tips of your fingers, fling them with a flourish, and lean back in your chair, feeling like the cat's pyjamas.

And as Mr Styles says, we should kiss all the time and disco occasionally. Which, frankly, is not a bad approach to Waffle either. A little love for each letter, always, and the occasional five-star disco shimmer of that rainbow grid. Ke

A museum, dear Wafflers, is not merely a building full of old pots and portraits of people in hats. No! It is a grand cabinet of curiosities; a temple of memory; a place where the past is polished, labelled, and placed behind glass for delight and wonder. Here at Waffle, we have a little museum of our very own: the Waffle Archives. Row upon row of puzzles from days gone by; each one lovingly preserved like a tiny wordy artefact.

Yesterday's swaps, last month's triumphs... that one Waffle you very nearly solved but absolutely did not mention again, all waiting patiently to be rediscovered.

Senator Alexander,

It is hard to reconcile the Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln with the Republican Party of Donald Trump. You have gone from the party that emancipated slaves to the party that protects Donald Trump from having a fair trial. Your job as a duly elected Senator from the great state of Tennessee is to join with your colleagues to protect Tennesseans and other Americans from a corrupt executive branch. I told my children, both of whom are in their thirties and disgusted by the Republican party's complicity, that they should have faith that you would make the honorable decision and choose country over party as the Republicans did during the Nixon administration. I was wrong.

Please know that I will never vote for another Republican as long as I live, and I will donate my time and money to advocate tirelessly for Democrats or Independents running to unseat any Republicans whether it is on the local, state, or federal level. You are right that the people will decide, to quote the Senate Chaplain's prayer from this afternoon, "Lord help them to remember that they can't ignore your truth...We always reap what we sow."

I hope you know what a disgrace you are to your fellow Tennesseans and how poorly you have served us. Please enjoy your legacy of cowardice during your retirement.

I took a guided harbor cruise of Toronto, and the guide was the perfect balance of funny and informative. I had to try a few Canadian delicacies: poutine fries and a beavertail with chocolate hazelnut spread. My last show was &Juliet and it’s probably my favorite musical I’ve seen this year.
