Look at this scan of Wolverine’s intact adamantium skull. We have no idea why he has memory loss. We learn later it’s from an adamantium bullet that left a hole in his adamantium skull. Sigh. Oh yes, Logan has memory loss! So let’s base an ENTIRE MOVIE around him remembering a guy from WWII.

X-Men: The Last Stand ends with Charles Xavier waking up in a different person’s body. Never mentioned again. Days of Future Past ends with Wolverine abducted by Mystique, impersonating Stryker. In the next film we see he was abducted by real Stryker. What?! That was your cliffhanger!

In retrospect I genuinely don’t know how they successfully pitched a wacky parody of CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS in the mid-1990s, since it wasn’t *exactly* what audiences were demanding. It’s genuinely amazing that CABIN BOY exists at all. And I still think it’s funny, dang it.

I saw CABIN BOY on opening day! There were four people in the theater. I thought it was funny. Nobody else laughed. Then, less than a third of the way into the movie, someone in front of me screamed “WHY ARE YOU STUPID?!” with a tone of *desperate* annoyance. Then they walked out.

I fucking hate that we have to completely change the way we write, just to differentiate ourselves from the trillion-dollar technology that’s ruining our industry, ruining our livelihoods, ruining the art forms, doesn’t even work, and couldn’t exist in the first place unless it stole from us.

I get very little feedback from other people in my industry, which often makes me feel like I’m working in a vacuum. So finding out a filmmaker like Scott Derrickson thinks highly of my writing (something I only just found out about) was a REALLY nice boost today.

A whole generation of film critics who knew more about superheroes and 1980s cartoons than the industry vets who'd spent decades ignoring that media now find themselves in the opposite position, completely blindsided by the mainstream popularity of YouTuber filmmakers and contemporary anime.

SUPERGIRL and MINIONS AND MONSTERS both referenced the Ironhide shot from TRANSFORMERS. And they're only the latest films to riff on it. Was this shot in any film prior to 2007? Or will this slow-motion low-angle dolly/tilt/pan Michael Bay's be most enduring contribution to cinematic storytelling?

I am amazed that Universal resisted the urge to make a MINIONS AND MONSTERS movie and make it about the Universal Monsters. It’s not like they’re sacred. Abbott and Costello already goosed Dracula, Frankenstein and the rest 70 years ago. Maybe they thought it was too similar to Hotel Transylvania?

The few guffaws MINIONS AND MONSTERS elicits from its movie references are eventually swept aside. I guess they didn’t have enough material for MINIONS GO HOLLYWOOD so they tacked on MINIONS GO HALLOWEEN, because they didn’t have enough material for that either.

I saw MINIONS AND MONSTERS and I am in no way surprised that the most critically acclaimed Minions movie is the one that shamelessly panders to film critics at every conceivable turn. I didn’t care for it.

CORRECTION: My favorite Spielberg movie is actually the last two scenes of THE FABELMANS. (Three, if you count the final shot separately.) Not the rest of THE FABELMANS, dear god no, but the John Ford segment is a perfect short film (with a completely unnecessary, over two-hour prelude).
