A rare visit to the Isle of May mid-week, somewhere that was very much home for a few years (a long time ago). Looking very brown in this hot dry summer. Late in the season so large auks gone, a few Puffin lingering. Struck by large gull decline. Didn’t see a single rabbit! #birdingFife

A visit to the folks unearthed two books that I read repeatedly as a kiddo birder. The rares they describe seeing were the stuff of dreams. Interested to see what I think this time ‘round
30 mins at Frampton Marsh this morning- 2 Black-winged Stilt,1 Little Stint, 5 Spot Shank, 1 Green Sand, 14+ Spoonbill and a Quail calling, plus all the breeding stuff. Only been here a handful of times but one of my favourite reserves #rarebirdsUK #birdingLincs

The Long-tailed Shrike at Old Barns, Crail this afternoon. Hidden in the hedge the vast majority of the time, it did occasionally perch out in the open. It’s quite breezy. Take your ‘scope. #birdingFife #rarebirdsUK

A joy as I parked the car to see a brood of 3 Ringed Plover in the East Neuk (watched from car to avoid disturbance). Fingers crossed they make it. Basically a fluffy stomach being transported around on very long legs (with added Star Wars AT-ST Walker vibes?) #birdingFife
The peaks in the distance at the start of the video are where the Zino’s Petrels nest, and this is the valley that they fly up/down in darkness. Amazing birds and amazing setting
A brief seawatch this morning in flat calm before the cloud rolled in. Five Desertas-type petrels, a smattering of Bulwer’s and oodles of Cory’s. Plus this
Third (final) day of the pelagics yesterday was a bumper Pterodroma day with two Zino’s, c.10 Desertas and 4 Desertas/Zino’s. Most did 1-2 circuits of the boat and a few lost ngeres longer. Rolling swell rather than yesterday’s chop was an improvement. Not got to my buckets of photo’s
Day two of the pelagics yesterday produced three Desertas Petrels (haven’t got to those pics yet), a Wilson’s and three European Storm Petrels (plus lots of Bulwer’s and Cory’s, two Roseate Tern, etc.)
Started going through pics from yesterday’s pelagic to the north of Madeira (I took quite a lot…)
It was a calm night with several Zino’s Petrels flying and calling just over our heads. An incredibly eery set of calls. Fantastic. Sound up

The kilt density at Edinburgh airport is through the roof this morning. Some ‘lively’ flights to Boston in the next few days I think

Increase in Manx Shearwater past Fife Ness this evening in the strong SE winds, with several flocks of 20-30. Presumably birds breeding on the West coast of Scotland (Rhum?) heading back following foraging trips into the North Sea #birdingFife

Not a great pic but the apparent moult line halfway down this Red Squirrel is striking. Either that or it’s actually two halves of different squirrels that have been sewn together to make this one 😬
