I see 3 of our volcanos from my home...this is Tahoma (Rainier) shot from my home east of Ellensburg, WA on the dry side. Grew up hiking all over the mountains and in between.

Like I said, clouds were having an evening's fun with their patterns and colors. In every direction, there were different shapes and the colors changed every couple of minutes. Sage Hills, 6/23/2026

Sunset to the far NW from Sage Hills in 4 shots about a total of 20 minutes apart from first to last. I do love walking summer evenings, warm soft air, smell of sage, nighthawks soaring...summer in my home state is hard to beat. 💙

Shortly after starting our walk, I tried to catch the sun behind the cloud but it wouldn't cooperate. The entire cloud formations across all the sky were amazing this evening. Dark foreground of sagebrush slope, with golden sunlight and white clouds.

Shot number 2, with the sun almost below the big dark cloud, golden light, foreground is dried grasses and sagebrush. Overhead the nighthawks are diving and hunting for food...love their sound.

This was as if someone was spilling gold coins from the edge of the dark cloud, with beautiful blue sky behind.

Last shot, the cloud is pulling apart, the color is more muted, the light is much lower...

And last is Jack, my resident coyote, who I have known since he was a pup. Looking a bit skinny, but hunting should be good if he keeps at it around here. Or maybe it's Jackie and she's been feeding young ones...

Can you find my little friend? Formally called a Pygmy short eared lizard, it's more commonly known as a Horned toad, even though they are not toads at all. I love the way they look like tiny dinos... 😘

Solstice celebration in the shrub steppe of Central Washington State, with cactus taking center stage. This is Great Plains Prickley Pear, which manages quite nicely in our desert conditions (7-9" of moisture per year).

Cerise colored bloom of a Great Plains Prickley pear, which has purple paddles and very long spikes of thorns which are painful if stuck in flesh!

The groomer said she could have made at least one more dog out of what she combed off him...but OMG he looks different today!

My Australian Blue heeler (type of cattle dog) after getting home from the groomer. Lots of shedding fur gone and all fluffy and soft. Always either pulling me along on the way out on our walks, or following behind on the way home...

My native Opuntia columbiana - Columbia prickly-pear (cactus) that blooms in two colors, which is so beautiful, but only last one day per bloom, so I have to remember to do photos.

Opuntia columbiana - Columbia prickly-pear cactus. Small but covered in buds and blooming every day right now. These have grown a lot where I have 2 planted.

Last night the moon forgot it was supposed to be blue, so it came in pink 💖

The skies were so lovely tonight over the Kittitas Valley...late spring, windy but overall a nice day. Made it to the farmers market, asparagus, onion pulls, and a lovely new pottery bowl for my breakfast oatmeal.

I love the native grass commonly called "Squirrel tail" or "Bottle brush". (Elymus multisetus) I hadn't realized that I am seeing two different kinds on my jaunts. This one is much larger and very silvery. I will post a photo of the other soon, as it is growing here as well.

My dear Max (Australian blue heeler) discovered this last night. Luckily I saw what he was about to climb down to investigate before he stuck his head in. Methinks I have a Badger either setting up a new abode or just exploring the idea...

Large hole dug in less than 24 hours by probably a Badger. It is quite deep, and about a 16" opening, at least. I'm not planning to measure it in case he is living there. :)

These mountains, ridges and valleys keep me from drowning in despair at what is happening to the world I love so much. Central Washington State 5/17/2026

Tahoma (Mt. Rainier) the tallest volcano in the lower 48 states, in silhouette at sunset. All my life except during the time I lived in Germany for 3 years, this has been in my life and in my view somewhere, almost daily...do people ever tire of mountains?

Behind the darkest ridge in a pale white mountain peak, Pahto or Mt. Adams, another volcano, and another mountain that I love. In my youth, I hiked a fair distance up that mountain with my father one time.

Boylston Ridge, with setting sun shadowing the draws and highlighting the ridges between. In front is native Big sage, covered in beautiful new growth. The reddish color of the rise between is caused by the Poa grass, a native to this area.

As Max and I returned from our evening walk, this ridge of clouds was to the east. The sun dropped and in moments the colors had become more dramatic. Just moments later the color was gone completely! 5/17/2026

Tonight, 5/13/2026, still high winds after a stormy May day, very unusual for us at this time of year, 4/10ths inch of rain ❤️‍🔥, altho I can't say I like being knocked awake by a blast of thunder so loud it rattle the windows. Then as the light faded, here was the ridge, and the sky and the beauty.

Yesterday Boylston Ridge was a symphony of the greens that are in my view now…the late spring heat will change it soon to golden but right now it is beautiful. East of Ellensburg, Central Washington State. 5/05/2026

Mid-spring in the shrub-steppe of Central WA state...it's such a time...the fragrance of Bitterbrush, the lemony yellow and whipped butter yellow of some flowers, silvery new growth on Sagebrush. This is my heaven always. 5/04/2026

Bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata) with it's delicious fragrance carried by the breeze in the evening. Beside it are Hooker's balsamroot, which are really putting on a show this year.

Gairdner's penstemon (Penstemon gairdneri) so small and so lovely. Lavender blossoms with whitish centers, about 12 inches max in height. Takes being attentive to see.

Thyme leaved buck wheat (Eriogonum thymoides), personal favorite of mine, needs our dry rocky thin soils to grow.

Another shot of the Bitterbrush, which is really showing off this year, that late rain storm made a huge difference in the blooms this year on everything.
