Career mostly as an antiquarian bookseller, retired at age 86 after 64 years. Restored circa 1815 home. Avid reader, collector of quotes, lover of languages and history. Happily married for a second time after 67 years with my first love. 94 now.
I live at almost the foot of a small mountain. My driveway curves down 600 feet to the street. We got through the ice storm OK, but with an ice covered asphalt sliding board. Was to have gotten the bandages off and a hot shower today but maybe in only a couple more days.
Two cats and a dog and I'm trying to get some work done - 0h well, there is always tomorrow.
Helene brought the side of the mountain down, taking the highway with it. Now access is miles away on the other side of the mountain.
This is one of six aisles of books being packed (boxes stacked a little way down) for shipment to a Hong Kong university in December 1994. They had lost a large portion of their library in the Cultural Revolution. I was able to replace a great many.
Here's a close-up after restoration. The entire lower half had to be replaced & a lot of decay in the top.
