As dangerous wildfires continue in the Pacific NW, the long range precipitation outlook is DIRE. All 4 deterministic & ensemble runs of the GFS & ECMWF produce almost no rain over the next two weeks. Combined with much above normal temperatures, volatile fire conditions will continue.
The Old Trails Fire started west of Spokane, WA around 12PM PDT. A cold front swept through around 8PM. You can see the smoke plume pivot as winds turned from SW to W. If the fire continues to spread eastward, it will put many more homes in northern Spokane at risk.
Doesn't get much more textbook than this 🤓🤩 If only it was January or February ☃️
A rare PDS Red Flag Warning is in effect for portions of eastern Washington and northeast OR. Relative humidity values in the teens, wind gusts up to 50mph, and very dry fuels = a very dangerous day upcoming.

AUGUST STARTING HOT The 6-10 & 8-14 Day Temperature Outlook maps from the NOAA Climate Prediction Center contain NO areas favoring Below Normal Temperatures (CONUS, Alaska, or Hawaii). The Precipitation Outlooks are more of a mixed bag, but the Southwest US monsoon season really jumps off the map!
An absolutely breathtaking loop of Hurricane Genevieve. 🤯 4 panels × 18 hours x 2 minute resolution = 2,160 images 😎
Genevieve's eye is a perfect circle. Only the strongest hurricanes achieve this level of symmetry. She's a powerful Category 5 storm 600 miles off the coast of Guadalajara. It's the first Category 5 storm in the East Pacific since Katy in 2024.

POWERFUL STORM: A rapidly-strengthening Super Typhoon #Bavi is set to affect the Mariana Islands this weekend. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center is forecasting a max wind of 150kt/173mph - a Category 5 storm. Bavi will continue west toward Taiwan and/or China by the end of next week.
Although confidence continues to increase in a widespread heatwave next week, uncertainty remains with the magnitude and location of the most extreme heat. This loop shows the last 11 runs of the GFS valid at 2PM EDT Thursday. Thursday looks like the hottest day, but Wed-Fri looks quite warm. 🥵

FULL RADAR LOOP: June 6, 2026 Squall Line from Columbus, OH to NYC A strong line of thunderstorms laid out a nearly 500-mile long swath of damaging winds on Saturday. A hot & humid atmosphere paired with a strong wave of energy to generate widespread strong wind gusts and some instances of hail.

VALLEY FOG IN THE APPALACHIANS Cool temps, clear skies, and calm winds provided IDEAL conditions for radiational cooling and fog in the Central Appalachians this morning. Once the sun came up, convective mixing slowly eroded away the fog. A gorgeous spring day is on tap!
