For me, a timely and not really random #RandomGameSaturday post: Tales of Berseria for the PS4. Only just bought the game, after buying a PS4 a few weeks ago, and the first few hours were already quite the journey. Looking forward to more... and kinda not, considering all that happened already.
My next four PS4 games have arrived~ Only wanted to try them really quick, but ended up playing for quite a while... especially Berseria. Almost three hours of that one alone. And, man, those were some three hours for sure... the difference between Velvet before and after all that alone... 😢
QTP with FOUR games that hold special memories for you! Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) Metroid Prime (GCN) SimCity 2000 (PC DOS) Pokemon Gold & Silver (GB/GBC) [see alt text for more info]
I don't suppose any of you know how to easily remove heatsinks epoxied(?) onto chips without causing irreparable damage? Found my old Elsa Erazor III Pro, a RIVA TNT2 Pro AGP graphics card with 32 MB RAM, but it's missing its custom fan (and the slot bracket's broken, but that's the lesser issue)
More "trying to learn more advanced OpenGL and GLSL stuff", now with multiple colored lights. (can't recommend learnopengl.com enough, honestly)
My first physical PS4 game arrived -- Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. Just started playing, so I've just done the first few bits of action gameplay and not much else. The characters and script are pretty fun(ny) so far, and the game's quite pretty looking too, IMO! Will definitely keep playing! :3
Some more general messing about with OpenGL, trying to learn more concepts, math, etc... Normal mapping on LearnOpenGL at learnopengl.com/Advanced-Lig... Base texture from opengameart.org/content/urba... Normal map created using www.smart-page.net/smartnormal
... oh right, I just remembered: Also ordered a copy of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin for PS4 over the weekend, which just shipped~
Just ordered my first physical PS4 games, three of four being remake/remaster compilations: - Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy - Spyro Reignited Trilogy - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 - Tales of Berseria (btw @iiotenki.bsky.social, didn't you work on Berseria or was it a different Tales game?)
🛠️📃 (still not much further wrt squashing the renderer's bugs, but that's why I'm working on this part)
This'll hopefully be helpful in debugging my garbage interpreter/renderer. It's more accurate than, say, SceneNavi's in some under-the-hood ways already, but it's also pretty damn broken in several others...
As far as my still-very-muddy-from-the-heat brain has gotten with this project; a very *very* **VERY** rudimentary display list parser and renderer. (also its still like 24°c at 11:40pm where's the thunderbolts and lighting very very frightning or whatever that the weather forecast promised?!?)
Just grabbed US and both PAL ROMs (1.0 + 1.1) and tried in ares, holding Start on boot *or* reset does show the pak menu on both, so it's an ommision in the EU manual, tho that doesn't explain why it didn't work for you
...including the US manual, actually. Only the EU one says to hold it while pressing Reset, the others say you can do it either way! Which is... yeah. I'm just confused now. www.videogamemanual.com/n64/Mario%20...
SoH OoT progress on Nijika, technically ready to fight Ganon, but doing side quests and stuff first. Just got the Biggoron Sword, another Heart Piece and Gold Skulltula or two.
Loading textures from PNGs from disk can be annoying, especially if you're using C# with just some rather thin wrappers around GLFW and libpng... Next up, more I/O stuff, eventually loading and parsing geometry, etc, etc... (again, I seem to like reinventing the wheel all the time)
I somehow like working on low(-ish) level OpenGL stuff, very often reimplementing the wheel in the process. Today... again. I might just be a coding masochist or something.
Some Fortnite kids seem to be particularily stupid 🤦 Also, "sprites" in the non-Fortnite sense are older than me, and I'm almost 40! (ugh) (PDF source: cini.classiccmp.org/pdf/Commodor...)
Zelda OoT via Ship of Harkinian on MacBook Pro Nijika: Just entered Spirit Temple as Adult Link for the second half of the dungeon. And now I'll try to sleep since it's 4:18 am here now. Tho still at 22°C. Boo. Good night y'all~
Random thought of the day: I've come to really like this "hair bun + side tails(?)" hairstyle, I have no idea why. *COUGH*
Played more Zelda OoT on my MacBook Pro Nijika through Ship of Harkinian -- became Adult Link, went through Forest and Fire Temple, got a few optional items, Heart Pieces, etc, and just entered Ice Cavern. About three hours, all on battery, from ca. 95% down to 18%. I love this little machine :3
Tried the Fujitsu-Siemens OEM card in the K6-2+ build really quick, it's detected by NSSI as a Sapphire Radeon VE -- later renamed to the Radeon 7000, after the 8000 series was released. The other cards... I can't test on this board. The board's AGP 3.3V only, it doesn't support 1.5V cards :/
