It’s getting too exciting out there! All these fires need to settle down.

Today’s painting attempt. I’m learning that I have to stop trying to get all of the details of the rocks and just go with the general color. It’s just hard because my Geologist eyes notice so many things!

My watercolor attempt to paint the scene shown in the previous photo. The grassy areas on the grease lips behind the lake are a bit too green and I didn’t include enough of the trees. I also showed too many details in the talus slopes.

The nice thing about having a dog is that they will protect you from danger at 6:30 in the morning by barking loudly in the backyard at the neighbors obviously dangerous camp chairs.

There’s important work happening here today.

Spent a lovely afternoon hiking in the Sierras with @phaneritic.bsky.social . We saw Bear scat and heard many birds and even got a few sprinkles from the growing clouds.

Ryan and Jasper make their way down through bushes and downed logs toward the highway after our hike. The forest is in the foreground and granite slopes can be seen in the background distance.

I feel like these flies are trying to liberate a friend caught in a trap.

Using the dog poop as a lure to feed my Venus flytraps. So far the one on the left has gotten three flies and the one in the middle and the right have gotten none. The one on the left always does well and the one on the right struggles, which is why it has fever traps.

Then a 3rd thing occurred. During Covid Ts gave students tons of leeway regarding attendance and due dates (which was good ). And this was visible at home while students “went to school “ in their houses. Families got an inside look and what they saw still informs their ideas about school today.
