In 2007 I lived 2 miles east of downtown San Diego. There was a significant wildfire, and this is what I woke up to one morning:

The Jacaranda tree is a beauty. Every year it breaks out in a riot of purple flowers. Downside, not only does it drop the flowers, sometimes it drops flowers with bees in them. Protip: do not wander barefoot amongst the dropped Jacaranda flowers!
