This is the movie btw... interesting film that used the tarantula hawk wasp as a plot device. Performances were good and i liked how it was mostly set in one room (credits came up and said it was based on a play so that made a lot of sense). Just makes me laugh cuz what a coincidence with metazooa!

Seeing one of these birds at the san diego zoo (and even catching a glimpse of that incredible shiny blue) was one of my highlights of the place 🪶 I've also had one of photographer tim laman's incredible prints of it in full mating dance mode on my wall for years 😍

Zoomed in cell phone pic of a superb bird of paradise in the middle of grooming itself in its leafy cage. Lucky moment to walk up as its shiny blue chest feathers that only appear in the mating dance are very visible, the rest of the black body feathers look puffed out from preening. Eyes and beak also very visible between the bars.

Finally got the video uploaded! This is filmed 10x zoomed in on my phone, so from as far back as i was, it looked like a trumpeter. But once i screenshot and zoomed in even more that tundra swan yellow spot was visible. I'm still so shocked this happened! 🪶 #birds #tommythompsonpark

Probably just got my wildest lifer and it was a total fluke! I was birding Tommy Thompson Park in Toronto yesterday and stumbled upon swans on the beach. I didn't wanna scare them so i stayed back and took a video. I thought it was a mute & trumpeter but i think it's actually a tundra swan! OMG 🪶

Zoomed out beach view of the side profiles of a mute swan with an orange beak and a smaller swan with a black beak--what i thought was just a trumpeter swan without being up any closer since there were at least 3 trumpeters in this same group.

Zoomed in view of the same black-beaked swan but now you can see the faint, small patch of yellow just between the eyes and beak, which is the marking for a tundra swan. It's considered very rare for Toronto and most likely migrating through.

Didn't realize how absolutely exhausted i was after spending a whole weekend with my little nephews until i woke up today and looked at my phone and it was 11:10am. I haven't slept this late in so long i can't remember the last time. It was worth it though 😂 2 year old bday parties are a blast!!!
