And we’re at 5.2% ABV, and we’re a few days away from main fermentation finishing up. So even if it stops here I’m happy with the ABV.
Hubble bubble. Yeast is happy. I stupidly didn’t attach the blow off yesterday so had to bleed about a billion bars of pressure last night before attaching the gas out tubing.
The next bit is great. The linked temperature switch, also from Kegland's Rapt. This communicates with the Pill, and will keep the beer at the correct temperatures= so the yeast is happy and monitoring the gravity of the beer. And it's all controllable online.
I then put my keg into my little bar fridge I got from my ld work for free. It just fits my keg and the heating pad will warm things up, and fridge will cool things down.
So yesterday I added the yeast, good old reliable US-05 Ale yeast, and my Rapt Pill into the keg. I also gave the outside of the keg a clean because it was a bit filthy. The Rapt Pill (mine I called Pill Murray), sits in the wort at a particular angle and depending on the gravity.
A lot of things to quickly do in sequence, in the dark. But the result is a keg full of wort. I’ll let it cool overnight (because it’s freezing cold) and add in the yeast in the morning.
Added in some lactose. This isn’t fermentable but gives it a little sweetness to balance the bitter hops and coffee and cocoa.
Having an hour free gives me a chance to do some prep for the next steps. Measuring hops for the boil for example. Funny story about these high precision scales, when I bought them it said “people who bought this also bought: Tony zip lock bags and money counters.”
And we’re at temperature. So time to add the grain. 2.5 kg of American Ale Malt, 400 g of flaked barley and those 490 g of porridge oats.
Measuring out some things to add into the mash (when sugar moves from the grains into the water). 0.64 g of sodium chloride and 400 g of oats.
From 9° to 24° in a few minutes. The other advantage to brewing small - less power required.
Due to my ADHD, I often have to write myself notes to remind myself about the state of my equipment.

That's right comrades (although it said I was closer to TPM than the Greens which is not what the chart says)
Get real. 40? FFS. It's like ACT having 120 list candidates. What's the point? Too much money to spend?
I hope Chris Bishop loses his seat and is unceremoniously booted from parliament in November.
I do expect better. A party that doesn’t have fence sitting as its core policy and a party that won’t reinstate the current far right rabble of political parties.
