The E-sports World Cup qualifier was a strong tournament! Before the last round I thought, oh if I win against someone weaker, I can't qualify but might win $1.500 I was paired against Grischuk... got a winning position (played Bxc5! +2 here) but lost. At least I made a solid draw against Leko!
Bodhana just scored her first IM norm at 11, after notably beating the overall French Champion, Maurizzi, rated over 2600! I really hope she will set new overall records and win overall titles soon!
Sans dire votre âge, quel est votre film préféré sorti l'année de vos 18 ans ?
I do, but I think I prefer such a version: white to play and win
The Paris Chess Championship with hundreds of players including many foreign professionals is canceled some 12 hours before the first round due to the heat. Instead of playing, I'll take a last-minute train to Barcelona to find some coolness...
"I know you're a Chess Master, but can you also be my Chess Mistress?"
If I'm not mistaken, the solution is valid and your friend just didn't let Stockfish run long enough. The solution is 1. Rb1!! c4 2. Kc6!! h4 3. Kb7 h3 4. Ka8 c3 5.bxc3 Qb8 6.Rb8 h2 7. Rh8
A cute study I randomly solved on Reddit (White to play and win) It was composed by Sarah Hornecker, a trans woman who sadly passed away in 2024 at age 38.
Aubrey Williams, a trans poker pro player, just finished 2nd of the WSOP Ladies Championship, earning $129,692 Her bluff all-in here was the best move but her opponent hero-called with Ace-high! According to Twitter and YouTube, poker is another domain where trans women have an unfair advantage...
Your positions made me think of this one -that you both should know (Gurgenidze & Mitrofanov, 1981, White to play and win)
That's a fake meme. The actual coverage of the Parisian simul by the New-York Times. Reshevsky was by far the best prodigy of the first half of the 20th century
Fun fact: in Paris we have had more than 100 Wallace fountains since the 1870s. They were paid by Richard Wallace, a British collector born in London who fell in love with Paris as a gift to his favorite city.
. @serachessqueen.bsky.social mated me 3 moves after this position 🤯 Little sis' Sera getting stronger and stronger! lichess.org/broadcast/ch...
French Women's Rapid Vice-Champion! Despite starting with 6/6 I couldn't get the French Triple Crown (I hold the title in blitz and classical) and finished "only" second after losing to the winner IM Deimante Daulyte and to @serachessqueen.bsky.social who mated me on the board after a crazy game.
Walking in the Parisian streets when suddenly I saw a star above the Moon?? In fact, it was Venus!
The blond in the middle is Marie-Pierre Pruvot aka Bambi. She is still alive, at 90. After the Carroussel she became a French literrature teacher and wrote a few biographical books.
Ended my European Championship with a sad loss to finish at 6.5/11 A pleasant experience with many interesting games, but only one I can be proud of. Can you find the petite combinaison to gain a winning advantage? lichess.org/broadcast/-/...
2 draws and 2 wins so far at the European Women's Championship. Today I play a young Armenian with a rating of 1986 but a performance of 2511 after beating 3 titled players including the first seed!
Playing in my first European Championship in Batumi, Georgia! The conditions are as amazing as the view from my hotel. I feel privileged and grateful to play such a tournament, and also melancholic that it's my first at 38. Being back at the Black Sea after 21 years also made me a bit nostalgic.
Not my worst swindle, but I won this with the white pieces. Chess is a game of luck.
My team asked me to play in the French women's league despite the circumstances. I told myself "I'll be sad and mourning whatever I do and I have friends here, so why not play?" Today I drew against the legendary Pia Cramling. I hope I can get some sleep tonight.
On the train back to Paris from Barcelona! I had an amazing time as always, including a free simul at the 3 peons chess club for a women-only group coached by my best friend Mathilde Congiu!
I blundered here with Qh5?? but my opponent didn't punish me and played the line I expected: fxe4 Bxe4 h4 Bxh1 after which I won. White is totally winning after Qh5?? What did we both miss?
I lived in Russia when I was a teen, so I've played thousands of blitzes with those pieces (and using this Soviet clock that hurt the hand like hell)
