Love how Maniscalco introduced him as DR. Eric Tulsky 🧪 Plus ET's subtle dig about how everyone on stage wanted to be here (9️⃣6️⃣👀) and also how he's like the only GM who says hi at pregame tailgates 😅 (Although boo to #NHL.com for cutting off his speech for ads???) #LetsGoCanes #StanleyCupChampions
So it turns out that our 6/17 #TaipeiScienceCafe #台北科普咖啡 speaker ended up being... me! I whipped up a last-minute #SciComm talk, wearing my #BetterKnowAFish hat and sharing some #SundayFishSketch love. Also, can you believe is my first-ever science café talk? Not just in Taiwan but ever? 🧪

Played around with a cocktail to help launch #TaipeiScienceCafe #台北科普咖啡 tonight. I call it the "Science Experiment" because it was definitely one last night, playing around with graduated cylinders, taring scales, and remembering saturation principles. Come have a taste if you're in Taipei! 🧪🥃☕️

2026 研究資料管理工作坊 Research Data Management Workshop hosted by Dr. Chuang Tyng-Ruey 莊庭瑞 (lab.depositar.io/members/) was a super informative symposium. Grateful for this overview of ecological/social science data management in Taiwan—and first visit to Academia Sinica. 多謝!https://2026.odw.tw/ #RDMW2026 🧪
Digital archeology of film is super important, says Hsu, making historic images and art available for research. Just this slide showing archival news reels shows how important this is, esp. given Taiwan's history of KMT censorship and information control (also re 台灣史補課 wave right now). #RDMW2026 🧪
Lots of audience chuckles because these museum specimen collections x taxonomy history headaches are real. Misspellings in binomial names, gaps in data, labels written at different points of a species taxonomic history. How to sort all this when digitizing, and automate fixes. #RDMW2026 🧪
I am also struck by how much each Taiwan LTSER station also addresses social science dimensions. Especially LTSER 翡翠站, which covers 翡翠水庫 Feitsui Reservoir—a water source for 6 million people. Talk by Lin Wei 林薇: www.ltsertwfeitsui.org #RDMW2026 🧪
Ecological research on Taiwan's Indigenous lands share sensitivities/reconciliations in colonial/settler histories worldwide. Whose data is it? How to respect sacred sites off-limits to outsiders? Limits of settler law versus Indigenous taboos? Overview by Umin • Itei Tanohila at #RDMW2026 🧪
Other interruptions to ecological monitoring in Taiwan's fog forests: NTU's Choy Huang says yellow-throated marten 黃喉貂 Martes flavigula) love chewing on instruments! Also, random filmmaking crews covering up instruments when on location shoots. #RDMW2026 🧪
Excited to attend my first Taiwan research symposium this year. Grateful to Professor Chuang Tyng-Ruey 莊庭瑞 for welcoming us to the Research Data Management Workshop 2026 研究資料管理工作坊 at Academia Sinica 中央研究院 today. I'll do my best to live-post: 2026.odw.tw #RDMW2026 🧪
