This was the posted image. It says "virtually staged" on it. My recollection was a bit off. It wasn't four or five televisions in a living area. It was three televisions in a bedroom, which I think is worse. I don't know how you're supposed to watch the one on the wall above the bedhead.

We used to have ithem in Melbourne until a few years ago, when they were removed for the same reasons. From the article:

Councilmember Mark Squilla, who introduced the bill, and animal-welfare advocates have been working to ban the practice for several years. The advocates have argued that horse-drawn carriages are cruel and onerous to the animals, and dangerous for surrounding traffic and pedestrians.

A horse in New York City died earlier this week while pulling a carriage, and lawmakers have planned to reintroduce legislation that would ban the practice in that city.

On Monday, The Australian reported that lawyers for Linda Reynolds, the former Liberal senator and minister and Higgins’ former boss, had sent a letter to the film’s producers threatening defamation action should the documentary suggest their client in any way attempted to prevent Higgins from airing her complaint.

“If, as the synopsis suggests, the film contains any allegation that our client or her staff attempted to ‘silence’ Ms Higgins, or is in any other way defamatory of our client, our client will take legal action against [production company] Stranger Than Fiction Films Pty Ltd, [sales agent] Together Films and, if necessary, individuals such as the director and producers who have participated,” the letter from Bennett Law reportedly said.

Governments need to stop using private companies to host public information. Whether someone needs details about a breaking emergency or an upcoming book fair, they shouldn't have to look on Facebook or Twitter or any outlet that only hosts that information to profit from it.

Facebook uses malicious compliance when threatened with regulation. When the Australian Government pursued the media bargaining code, Facebook took down not just news, but government information indiscriminately. For a week during disaster season and the COVID pandemic, an Australian might have gone to the Facebook page of a local fire service or Department of Health and found it blank. Facebook backed down, though not before extracting concessions.

1. The pure ignorance here is pretending it takes more than ten seconds to find the studies that show modern SUVs and trucks are objectively more dangerous, and are getting worse each year. Here's a simple summary of one which you have no intention of reading because it disrupts your world view.

Summary of results from an analysis of 27 years of collision data showing that drivers of small cars involved in a collision with an SUV are significantly more like to be killed or suffer serious injuries.

But when you're the selfish prick driving the SUV (and in which case you are also more likely to engage in riskier driving behaviour) you can just ignore that and go about living your happy little fuck-everyone-else existence because you need a tank to move a shovel, right?
