Green shield-shaped beetle, probably a stink bug of the genus Chinavia, peering over the edge of a milkweed leaf that is exactly the same shade of green.

Ok too many heavy thoughts today, have a butterfly pic I took in Indiana on my road trip:

A butterfly (possibly a Buckeye) on beach sand, with its wings spread. Mostly dark browns, but in with lovely orange spots and lines, and a pair of large white-highlighted eyes on its wings.

So, yesterday’s gravity misadventure left me with a gnarly elbow scrape, and apparently I booped the end off one of my ankle bones. No surgery necessary, and the doc said it should heal as long as I “don’t do anything stupid”. (Those of you who know me probably made an involuntary noise at that.)

So I gave him directions to a nice little sandwich shop in Concord, MA, which involved sending him through the Concord Rotary. This is a rotary in the middle of a multi-lane highway filled with Massachusetts drivers. Don't let the apparent orderliness of the screenshot fool you. 3/x

One year ago I was in Japan for Hal-Con, and it was one of the happiest weeks of my life. Met many awesome people, ate great food, explored so many beautiful places and barely scratched the surface. Not a day goes by that I don’t wish I was back there.

…it seems to be about two young fishermen at the turn of the 20th century in Maine, which I find amusing as my one story last year was set in the same time period in Newfoundland, about a young man in a fishing town trying his best to avoid the sea (-: I got away with much less boat research.
