The byline reads, "PlayStation fans are currently enjoying a new era of exceptional Marvel titles, but in another world, Xbox gamers could have had Spider-Man and more."

A Wikipedia article with a list of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games, with "Marvel's Spider-Man" being #2, with 22.68 million copies sold.

While I do agree that ToonHive should've cited the Tumblr post they're referring to, being this vitriolic about it and calling ToonHive "engagement-bait aggregators" when they're, imo, one of the more tolerable animation news accounts on social media in general is very weird, sorry.

"As Asha & Matt reportedly look to double-down on big franchises at Xbox, I'll reiterate my plea for them to let other studios, internal & external, make unique Halo games, like Games Workshop w/Warhammer or Disney w/Star Wars.

(Sidenote: I actually explained my reasoning for Xbox multi-plat games back in 2024, during the initial rumblings about games like Starfield and Hi-Fi Rush jumping ship. It's from 2024, so much of the info is unfortunately outdated, but I think most of my main points still hold up.) (5/10)

Xbox has Gamepass, they have cheaper hardware in the form of the Series S, there's still a huge incentive to buy games on Xbox instead of PS5

Like, if you wanted to play Starfield or Hi-Fi Rush and aren't a PC person, which is the better deal:

$310-$360 for a Series S and a basic Game Pass subscription

or

$470-$570 for a PS5 and just the game itself

All Microsoft is doing is opening up another revenue source. They get money on Xbox/Bethesda/ Activision games regardless on if they put it on Xbox/Switch/PS4/PC. They'll get the most money if people buy on Xbox but money is money regardless on where it's from.

Like CDPR can easily lock their games like Witcher and Cyberpunk on GOG on PC cause they own it and get 100% of the money. They put their games on Epic and Steam, though, because 1. They want the biggest number of people playing their games and 2. They get a portion of the earnings anyway, so it doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

All this to say that Microsoft putting Starfield or Indiana Jones on PS5 isn't/should't be the end-all be-all for Xbox, nor is it worse than the red ring of death (like seriously though that's a really dumb thing to say *sob emoji*)

I forgot where I heard this from, but I remember hearing about how one of the big problems RedFall (the Bethesda Xbox exclusive that bombed last year) faced during development was that the PlayStation version that the devs were working on before the Xbox deal was abruptly cancelled when the deal went through

Given how some of the big games coming over are Starfield, Indiana Jones, and Hi-Fi Rush (Bethesda games that were either announced or presumably in development prior to the Xbox deal it wouldn't be surprising that these supposed PS5/Switch versions were games that already existed and were locked inside the vault until Microsoft changed their minds

It also wouldn't be a stretch to say that, because of RedFall, Microsoft is letting games from acquired studios like Bethesda and Activision keep the PlayStation games they were making for development on those games run more smoothly.

If I were Microsoft, I would much rather have a good/great game multi-platform release rather than a bad exclusive

3. Completely overhaul Game Pass. Couldn't fit the full plan, so I put it in a separate dock. Probably unrealistic, but it's Microsoft. They *should* have the capital to make it work. (3/10)

Game Pass Ultimate - $19.99/$24.99 - Everything in Core + Exclusive Benefits & Day One Third-Party, Indie, and *some* Xbox Original games for $19.99 OR that plus 2-3 other subscription services of your choice (Ubisoft+, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, GTA+, Antstream) for $24.99

PC Game Pass - $10.99/$15.99 - Whatever PC Game Pass is doing right now for $10.99 OR the mix and match thing from Ultimate for $15.99

2. Create a disc drive add-on for the Series S ala the disc drive add-on for the PS5. The Series S is still *technically* the cheapest current-gen console on the market, so making a disc-drive add-on for it for around $80-$100 might convince more to buy it. (2/10)

Thread of random things I would do if I ran Xbox: 1. Bring back the backwards compatibility program, use the Xbox Game Preservation website to see what games are requested the most, and make deals with publishers and IP holders to get games and maybe put them on Game Pass (1/10)
