New reading nook accomplished. Will get a lot of use this Summer, especially starting in 2 weeks when I retire
*record scratch* Yes, that is me watching a hockey game live on television. Let me tell you how I found myself in this position..
Surviving snowpocalypse. 2 rounds of shoveling done, at least 1 to go. Reading v1 of The Gulag Archipelago & a consideration of Christopher Marlowe and his times. Revealing lines for the play. On the CD carousel: Renaissance choral music, Mahler, Mozart, Heinrich Schütz & Elvis Costello.
Four barrels going. Sherry, Tawny Port (both 2 months), cask strength whiskey flavored with vanilla and cardamom (3 mos) and a regular white whiskey (6 mos) Technically, I have a cask of amontillado in my basement. Will need to throw a party after hitting the brickyard
After a day of protest, and reading the Diane Keaton obituaries earlier this week, tonight is a long awaited rewatch of REDS
Good day for a protest. Went to the suburban one in front of the Springfield Mall. Somewhere between 500 and 1000 people. A handful of Trump's drivers and a couple agitators with Charlie Kirk signs, but overwhelmingly positive and joyous. Many cars cheerfully honking with thumbs up out of windows
My absolute favorite Redford project is QUIZ SHOW, which shows the eventual dumbing down of discourse, the loss of respect for knowledge, and the upside of lying for profit. It posits the Quiz Show scandals as the harbinger of where we are today. Brilliant film, great script.
There are two things I know to be true. There's no difference between good flan and bad flan, and there is no war in Albania
I was trying to get a photo of this beautiful door at the Culinary Institute of America, when someone suddenly flew through it, making it an arguably better picture
Only a few touches of whimsy on my way to dinner. The scissors tie pin, the prohibition cufflinks, the Venetian looking female head, and of course my trusty guillotine
Saw a post on BSky of someone's pistachio olive oil cake and was inspired to make (what is probably) the second cake I've made from scratch in my life. It was a combination of seeing the picture and having a few buttloads of pistachios on hand, for undisclosed reasons.
I had the Three Investigators I love them also collected and Encyclopedia Brown a bunch of Big Little Books
Reading about the Bezos wedding and the Zuckerberg search for godlike artificial intelligence, and having thoughts
