Dad. Educator. Holding on to hope. I like video games, Star Trek, jamming tunes, and other stuff. Somewhere south of DC.
My wife saw what I think is a corpo rocket this morning. Reflecting on how much I actually ended up following, enjoying, and appreciating the Artemis II mission (particularly, the deep humanity of it all), I realize it’s the billionaire bros I’m sick of. Let’s launch them towards the sun.
Unbeknownst to me, Mom had ordered the Tonie (still not totally sold on this thing), and it’s the only one so far our almost 3 yo is just leaving on and listening to. Hearing some of these songs in our background might be causing nostalgia onions to be cut.
I can get behind this kitbash, which is just WIP parts resting atop each other.
Propoganda language of this broadcast aside, I did watch the launch, and have set my lighting to warp core. Godspeed, Artemis crew.
I’ve been enjoying the No Man’s Sky ship building - quite a lot. I’ve iterated designs as a sleepy time relaxing exercise for like two weeks, tweaking builds nightly. I think I’m closing in on something I like. The Stardog Champion is nearing completion.
Do you have flowering shrubs or trees in your yard? Most ladybugs I’ll see outside are on our hydrangea bushes en masse just destroying aphids. I am posting a response from an Entymology reddit because I can’t say it any better! They aren’t munching on your home materials, typically harmless.
Knowing that the most powerful people today will die hated and their graves spat upon brings me joy. Now, to the weekend!
Party in the stardrive tonight! Scraped all the windows free of paint. After fighting with what I wanted lit vs. not, going to work with the ones that look alright when repainting/touching up. There are a few windows that look like windows. #spaceship #startrek #modelbuilding
Made some time last night and this morning to keep going on my little ship. Proved why I don’t do this before work though. Now I just want to stay home. The whites, though inaccurate , are crisping up spots for me that felt dull and without life. And their are helping to fill the smallest spots.
The stardrive begins to take shape. Was hoping to be complete before break ended, but that is clearly not a possibility. It’s okay! Seems like something to focus on in the evenings will be a good thing to have.
I knew the Galaxy neck would be a struggle to get details. As the build continues; I’m finding I need to let some things go. A good skill to practice, I suppose.
@admiralbuck.bsky.social - glad to see you back. It may not be much, but your craft inspired me to build (very low level hobbyist) ships again. And @rjb-mallacore.bsky.social your Ent-D artwork has been an amazing reference for color and details. I focus on the errors, but see progress!
Working on two similar ovals for the time period I’ve been has caused a bit of fatigue. Fortunately, the Enterprise presents plenty of other parts to give some attention to.
Sick toddler meant I stayed home and got to have some stretches of hull painting time. What a difference a day makes. Not sure about the small patches of green-grey that mimic Andrew Probert’s use of green on the real deal, but I feel good about the path I’m on now.
In my dreams, this model I’m working on is going to look like her…. As of now, not so much lol Following legit modelers here, I felt I needed to go back with darker to make the hull less translucent for lighting purposes. Spent 4 hours today just painting new blue-grey details.
Just to follow up on this…. Following folks like @rjb-mallacore.bsky.social @trekmods.bsky.social and @admiralbuck.bsky.social is nothing short of inspiring. This little proof of possibility with $1.49 Aldi Christmas lights isn’t much but it has me very excited about what I might be able to do!
Rough workings and I can’t find a phaser strip color I like yet but progress was made. Slow and steady. Little detail work helps soothe me during what is a stressful time around these parts. These parts are my brain.
Scrawling windows on this Galaxy saucer is making it feel more alive already. Scrapped the first base color. This feels closer to shooting model. Then to try out the paneling color(s).
Day 2 progress on and unnamed Galaxy-Class 1:1400. Comes with Syracuse as well as the Ent-D. The color I tried tonight feels like a direction I can build on. But, darn I did like that subtle blue green.
