The letter explains that UK operations to extract this fossil fuel would generate 100s of million of tonnes of CO2 in Scope 3 emissions. The ADDITIONAL emissions created as result of UK operations fall under UK international obligations under the UNFCCC, Paris, and ICJ AO. Not Fair.

🧵/4 It's vital a budget IS set this week — and we ask MPs vote one through. But it must be strong enough, and grounded in the science. If it isn't, we go straight to our legal team to begin formal action against the Government — within days.

🧵/2 The Government claims the budget is "consistent with the Paris aim to keep warming to 1.5°C." We've examined the evidence behind that claim. It asserts compliance — it doesn't demonstrate it. That's not good enough for a legally binding target.
