Anyone biking or running lately feeling last week’s smoke? Def wheezing a bit
There’s actually one of these in the bridge path itself, which I didn’t notice Tuesday. How long til the barrels give way & it’s just a low block of concrete at the bottom of the downhill? 🤯
🚲-friendly Triborough can facilitate a lot of new bike trips - consider all the protected lanes/greenways it will help connect
Bikeway in construction on the main Triborough Bridge span 😍😍😍 Plan when this got started was to open in 2027. I don’t have any update h/t @misernyc.bsky.social r/MicromobilityNYC Photo @mta.info view.info.mta.org?vawpToken=YC...
It's not condition orange like we saw in June 2023, but you can still smell, taste & feel the 💩 in the air
Serious concrete pour as McGuinness road diet takes shape near the Pulaski Bridge. This is a "floating" bus stop at Green St
Been watching operation of the new northern segment of the McGuinness Blvd road diet. S-bound traffic backs up further onto the bridge as 2 lanes merge to 1, but that’s fine. There’s ample room on the bridge for that. Intersections along McG are working well & bike lane 🚛 blocking seems much less
It's true that the city has been declaring greenways *in theory* for a long time 🤨
If Mamdani wants to make a greenway splash, let’s finally close the decades-old & ridiculous Coney Island gap. Most of Neptune Ave is massive, and just requires application of some courage to add protected bike lanes this season or next
It made me think about the game-changing greenway across the Meadowlands (though doesn't go to Giants stadium). But implementation ambitions seem very slow (and perhaps iffy beyond phase 1)
A season of solid announcements for city street projects How bout follow thru on existing commitments? On Jan 3rd, the Mayor promised completing the McGuinness Blvd road diet "as soon as weather permits" It's 90+ & pushing Memorial Day. No sign of anything happening
DOT’s been aware of this problem for a long time & makes an occasional stab at addressing it, but mostly it might as well be 1980 as far as DOT operating groups are concerned. No evidence Flynn is making any changes there
It’s 🚲 month, so NYCDOT is failing to preserve protected #bikenyc routes thru its resurfacing process (Skillman, Sunnyside)
Looks like DOT wants north-bound cyclists to go up Smith St. Though it would be nice if the greenway route into Red Hook was planned and under way
Interesting configuration here (north of the bridge looking south) with a double lane instead of two-way. Van drivers appreciate DOT's generosity
The Hamilton Ave Bridge is still not done. Possibly waiting for specific materials to build a 🚲/🚘 barrier that is light enough for a drawbridge
Very cool that @velazquez.house.gov has joined today. She really launched the BK Waterfront Greenway with $$$ in the mid-2000s
Brooklyn Community Board 7 & greenway boosters are cutting the ribbon on the BK Waterfront Greenway segment under the Gowanus Expressway south of the canal later today That makes sense: some of it has been rideable for a year & a half, though work on the canal bridge has seemed especially slow
DOT's bike counter at Kent & North 8th Street was recording over 600 🚲/hour in busy peak periods last summer
Can imagine @cmrestler.bsky.social is describing the need to widen Brooklyn's busiest #bikenyc lane & expand sidewalks along the dramatically changed Kent Ave waterfront
Pretty inaccessible for most people today! (Note big hidden pocket of illegal parking up there)
