I ha e had some of my oldest and closest friends - in some cases going back 50 years - in Sweden for the last few days visiting me and my family, and as always they have left me feeling like the luckiest man alive. Sore from laughing and worn out, but blessed beyond belief by this life.
Shattered to learn of the death of Glen Hansard, who was part of the Dublin music scene that many of us played in back in the 1990s. philipoconnor.com/rest-in-peac...
Lol. FIFA scheduled a press release to go out when the 90 minutes (ish) was up - they seem to have missed the possibility of extra time ...
A pleasant evening ahead in the company of @mickpuck.bsky.social and the lads and lassies ...
In a barbecue joint in Vancouver's Chinatown. Screw you, mediocre leaving cert results!
No idesa who to credit for this, so I'll just let it stand by itself. #WorldCup2026
My girl @harjournalist.bsky.social showing Canada's Jesse Marsch who's BOSS in Vancouver ahead of the #WorldCup game against Qatar!
Fuck these racist pieces of shit, and fuck everyone who voted for them. In particular, fuck Seán Kelly, for whom it wasn't enough to vote to allow migrants to drown in the Med, he has to make life miserable for those who survive as well. May none of them ever know a moment's peace again.
Seems @bloomsdayfestival.bsky.social has removed its post promoting the AI slop film from Instagram. What gives?
This is such loser behaviour. Embarrassing to be a Dublin GAA supporter when they behave like this.
Writing an English text book for secondary school students in Sweden, and in the chapter on political communication there's a section about what politicians like @micheal-martin.bsky.social say when they want to say nothing. I'd like to draw your attention to the fifth one on the list: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Absolutely baffled by the passive language in this report, and in many other reports about deaths of cyclists, pedestrians and other road-users. What was the "incident"? And is it not easier and clearer to say "A cyclist has died following an incident" and then describe what happened?
Turned on RTE Radio 1 briefly and they were talking about ... Malachy Steenson's prospects at the next election. Coincidentally, I missed the start because I was at an exhibition in Oslo commemorating Europe's worst far-right terror attack on July 22 2011.
Attention Irish journalists and editors: If you feel you can report on the "alleged shoplifting", but not the alleged knee on the victim's neck (unlike the alleged shoplifting, it's in the video of the incident), you need to ask why you made that editorial decision.
Really looking forward to @daraobriain.bsky.social im Stockholm tonight, and also the possibility of never being able to walk again after experiencing the "leg room" at Kinateatern ... =)
Ancestral home & village of the leader of Swedish "Liberal" (lol) party, Simona Mohamson (born Simona Mohamed) has been bombed to smithereens by Israel. Mohamson, whose party are part of Sweden's right-wing coalition supported by far-right SD, has declined to comment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For some reason, this story reminded of this verse from "Nothing But The Same Old Story" by Paul Brady, about anti-Irish racism in the 70s in Britain.
Thinking a lot today about Bobby Sands and the ultimate sacrifice he and others made, and looking at what Simn Féin have become over the last two years or so in the south. I sincerely doubt he or they would have stood for it.
Interestingly, the origin of the highlighted line in the image is likely taken from a Chris Rock routine from around the same time.
“Humanity goes before the sport - it's that simple." Former Palestine captain Imad Zatara wants to send a message to Irish football - boycotting the games against Israel would send a powerful message to the world. Full interview & video here: philipoconnor.com/humanity-goe... #SpeirGorm
This is pathetic from Manchester United, and every other journalist should have walked out in protest. It might teach them the difference between PR and journalism.
