Comment: Ok but what is small talk is myopic and based on the dominant culture which is inherently oppressive. The weather isn’t small and apolitical given climate change and natural disasters and how often these affect people. Talking about family is deeply personal and most people have trauma. If you’re chronically ill then talking about free time and hobbies can result in further stigma. Y’all have to move past traditional frameworks to actually be inclusive and safe to the majority of others.
