You will always find me in the kitchen at parties, even if I haven’t been invited.
Absolutely gutted to learn that Ronnie Le Drew has passed way. I met him and Zippy a few years ago, and he could not have been nicer. Everyone knows him as being creating Zippy, but he also worked on Muppet films, Little Shop of Horrors, The Sooty Show and more. RIP, Ronnie.
Remember Ice Magic? The chocolate sauce you could put onto your ice cream, and it would harden into a chocolate crust? Is this like that? Anyone tried it?
ZX Spectrum fans, which one are you storing your “legitimate backups” on?
ZX Spectrum owners, how did you pronounce the quotation marks when you typed LOAD “” Me and my friends used to say “Load dink dink”, but I’ve heard “Load dij dij” and “Load quote quote”. What did you call them?
Five years ago today I asked a question about football that nobody has been able to answer.
Watching old episodes of The Indoor League with Fred Truman on YouTube. What’s with these dart boards?!? When did the Treble ring get introduced? Na’ then, I’ll si’thee.
Mel Brooks is 100 years old today. What a legend he is. Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, The Producers, High Anxiety… I could watch them on repeat and still be laughing. And The Elephant Man… What a film! Beautiful. Happy Birthday to the 100 year old, 2000 year old man.
Just picked up a 1983 Snakes and Ladders game by Spears Games. The instructions list what each of the ladders and snakes represent and, to be honest, it sounds like an entry level cult!
Did anyone else get the Walls Mini Ha Ha Joke Book when they were young? Found some photos of it online, but I lost my book decades ago. It has cartoon strips and jokes, and it was fantastic.
Lost my Dennis The Menace badge decades ago, but 42 years later The Beano have kindly sent me replacements! If you live with someone who grew up in the 70s or 80s, there is a HUGE chance they have lost their badges too. Treat them!
Today’s proper old school LEGO build is Moe Mouse’s car, Fabuland set 328, from 1979. I’ve got a few Fabuland characters, but this is the only buildable set I have.
Picked up an old LEGO set a few months ago. It’s from 1976 and was only available if you collected tokens from Weetabix boxes. 50 years ago LEGO Minifigures didn’t have arms, or faces, and dodgy “illegal” building techniques (like on the animals face) were allowed.
Built a small model of Sludge just now. It’s one of the Blokees Transformers blind boxes. Not bad for £8. #Dinobots #Decepticons
Is this the new “thing”? I didn’t get the appeal of salted caramel when they started years ago, I still don’t get Dubai chocolate, but… gunpowder?
The 80sNostalgia website is 28 years old today! Unleashed on 9th June 1999, it’s older than Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, B3TA, Ebaums World, StumbleUpon, MySpace, and even MSN Messenger. Thanks to everyone who has visited & chatted over the years. You rock!
Have you seen these collectible Fun House cards? I’ve just got Pat Sharpe and The Twins. Now I’m unbeatable!
Are you coming to Nottingham Video Game Expo with @vgeevents.bsky.social? If you’re into retro gaming it’s right up your street. Take a look at the line-up: Kev Bayliss - Battletoads, Starfox Adventures Gary Bracey - Ocean Software Roland Perry - The Amstrad legend Plus, 20% off with our link:
Remember when they used to release TV theme tunes as 7 inch singles?
Check out this painting that my Dad did. It’s of a silver mannequin head. Bonkers.
There was a collab between Transformers and Back To The Future last year, and Hasbro released a new Transformer, Gigawatt. It’s a transforming DeLorean, and it is superb! Was £30, but currently in The Entertainer (and some Tesco stores) for £15 if you want one.
Bargain of the week: Playskool Maximus. Boxed, with all his cards, fully working, 20p from a charity shop in Bolton. Bonkers.
Went to watch Waiting For Godot at The Octagon in Bolton last night. Incredible performances from Matthew Kelly and George Costigan. Estragon’s boots were, in the end, ok. …blaming his shoe when his foot is guilty.
Every time I turn my calculator on at work (because, yes, I do have a proper job too,) it always has a message for me. I’m not sure what it’s trying to tell me though. Any code decipherers around?
Happy National Willy Fog Day! Remember the theme tune? Just sing the first line. Go on. Or a tiny bit from the chorus… Great! Now you’ll be singing it all day. You’re welcome. #WillyFogDay #NationalWillyFogDay Thanks to @kumachan.bsky.social for the reminder!
