This is "aggressively bland" and the author is specifically not making an out of scale argument. Words have no meaning and I absolutely do not believe them.
I get that single stair might make the interior better, but the idea that the exterior aesthetics of this are problematic from anything but out of scale BS view are just not believable to me. It's absolutely fine.
Calling out the BS of the out of scale argument, and immediately making an out of scale argument sure was a choice.

This neighborhood is wildly underdeveloped and under zoned. It makes perfect sense to build as much as possible.
The deference and delay is absurd, HCD needs to take action asap.
Skimming them, I'll give them credit for their unusual success of actually avoiding subjective rules, which many ODS ordinances have. That being said, I might argue rule 1 of this section is subjective. (And rule 2 is just overly narrow/restrictive.)
You should also read the article. It's paternalistic NIMBYism. Claiming that these homeowners are "protected" by stripping them and their neighbors of the rights to build more housing or sell to a builder for the same purpose.
ahh yes, I remember looking at this ordinance once. If you take it literally, it straight up bans outdoor hot tubs with an impossible sound standard.
YIMBYism is not demanding low density affordability and local control.

Nextdoor is so hilarously consistent in its anti-housing inconsistency. Lafayette is building a 7-stories near bart. One commenter is concerned it's just summer homes from rich Palm Springs residents. Another concerned it'll overwhelm the schools and increase crime. Those darn summer criminals!

Taxing new housing to fund affordable housing is a Faustian bargain. Local control is abused constantly.
No, I will not join "affordable housing" orgs in opposition to the bill that seeks to very modestly reduce excessive transfer taxes. Yes, the bill is bad. Because it doesn't give a full exemption to builders, not for the reasons EBHO claims.
