We have thus “breakfront” cabinet (no idea why it’s called that) that Julia’s grandfather got from the Illinois Land Office just before it closed in the 1940s. How long it had been there we don’t know.
Name a TV show you're positive no one remembers but you.
Stephen King stories! Nekkid ladies! Naughty comics by Vaughan Bode! Cavalier Magazine had everything!
Hey, I just looked at the new Lunar Distribution catalog, and in the TwoMorrows pages you'll find Back Issue #170 featuring an article about Howard the Duck's nemesis Doctor Bong written by me! This issue reaches stores in September - but you can tell your local retailer to order your copy now!
The first Superman comic I ever read. Not a great issue by any means, but the ones that came after made Big Blue my fav’rit.
Is that the same Bob Wood who wrote comics and also…did other things?
I grew up with this piece by Mel Lazarus hanging in my kitchen. It now hangs in my office. My parents lived in the neighborhood near him when they were dating.
Farewell to the great Robert Duvall. He made a lot of great movies, but 1983's "Tender Mercies" has a special place in my heart. It's a quiet, intimate movie, and it made me a fan of a certain stripe of country music.
I also owned several pages of original art drawn by Sal B., all long gone now. Around 1980 a comics shop I occasionally visited in Paramus, NJ, had a bunch of his pages for not much money, and I picked up this lovely Marvel Two-In-One splash. I had a few Rom, Space Knight pages of his as well.
Three of the earliest issues drawn by Sal Buscema that I can remember. Marvel Team-Up cover not by him, but the other two are.
Current listening: "Thrillington," a full-on orchestral reimagining of the Paul and Linda McCartney album "Ram," recorded in the early 1970s and released years later. One of the weirdest entries in Sir Paul's back catalogue.
Recent purchase while traveling for Baltimore Comic-Con: "Louis Armstrong Plays W.C. Handy." Recorded in 1954, the album has been remastered with bonus tracks. Incredibly, it was made with Handy hanging out in the studio, while the band played songs he wrote at the start of the 20th century.
It still drives me crazy that the Dire Straits box set "The Studio Albums 1978 -1991" does not include their 1983 four-track EP, which memorably includes the song "Twisting by the Pool."
C'mon, you guys. If you're flipping through back issues of Fantastic Four looking for the lord of all Latveria, you're Doomscrolling.
It’s such a badass move to draw a cover without the main characters from the series. Not sure who else besides Kirby could even get away with it.
No cheating: Post your Lock Screen! This is the display poster for the Marvel black light posters from the early 70s. I used to own one of these.
Maybe this one? Adaptation by Evanier and Divono, art by Dan Spiegle. I never saw the movie, but I can’t imagine it’s very good.
Beautiful. Reminds of this classic comic strip by Harvey Kurtzman, creator of Mad Magazine.
I have another lovely piece of Alex Ross art up for auction on Comiclink, closing this Friday, May 9. This is a very cool unused concept drawing for Amazing Spider-Man #25 shining a spotlight on the Green Goblin. Check it out here and get those bids in! www.comiclink.com/auctions/ite...
What is with these idiots and the made-up term "war-fighting"?
Date yourself with toys that were newly available when you played with them.
