I played a gig tonight! Work has a bunch of extracurricular clubs including a music one that puts on concerts, I joined the club and joined a band The band name is OMCKDS after one of the first things I read in Japanese - pedestrian crossings saying "omachi kudasai", meaning "please wait"

Check out this prediction for the 2013 #Ashes series from the 2005 book "Cricket: Celebrating the Modern Game Around the World" by Philip Brown and Lawrence Booth. You have the series being played in Sharjah and Michael Clarke has to convince the TV audience thathe's made his ground!

Excerpt from "Cricket: Celebrating the Modern Game Around the World" by Philip Brown and Lawrence Booth, published 2005

It's March 2013, and tension is mounting during the third and deciding Ashes Test at Sharjah. Australia's middle-order rock Michael Clarke is speaking breath-lessly into the mic on his collar, trying to convince the vast TV audience in India that he just grounded his bat in time. But Ian Bell's argument - that his direct hit from cover point deserves recognition-is persua-sive, if not entirely based on logic. As the votes pour in, piling up in the top left corner of the TV screen, it is clear that Clarke is in trouble. In fact, he is out - by two whole percentage points! Bell's throw might not have beaten Clarke's lunge, but these days it's the fans who hold sway, not the humdrum reality of feet and inches. As Clarke shakes his head, Bell gives a smiling thumbs-up to the cameras, and has 30 seconds to thank the public while the next batsman is driven in a golf buggy to the crease by the MD of the series sponsors. England go on to win the game, thus claiming their first Ashes triumph for 27 years, and announce that they are looking forward to defending the urn in Singapore in three months' time.

Complete science-fiction? Or a sneak preview of the game's future, a place where technology and the people rule, and cricket's power base has shifted to the subcontinent? Cricket has always been so full of surprises that nothing can be discounted, not even England winning the Ashes. Who, after all, would have predicted the epoch-making impact of World Series Cricket? Or the way Hawkeye has changed our perspec-tive of lbw decisions? Or that cricket would turn to baseball for advice on how to throw? Or that a 20-over slog would be hailed as the game's saviour?

"For me, indie wasn't about DIY ethics, avant-garde disruption, or any kind of radical worldview. It was about albums I could spin incessantly and organise into lists in place of a personality, songs I could burn onto mix CDs for my friends and family to show off my good taste, and bands that doubled as a secret handshake with people cooler than me. As someone with average-or-worse charisma, looks, and athletic ability, who never had much to brag about besides my grades, I bought into the snobbery that often seemed inextricable from indie-rock fandom. 'Hipster' was an aspirational status for me, albeit one I always felt too sheepish and basic to fully achieve."

These are Australian wood ducks, but there was one autumn when living in Melbourne where my local park (2 km from the city centre) was home to a huge brood of wood ducklings! It was amazing being there to watch them all grow up!! (Apologies for the low quality of the photos)
