For more than 30 years, U.S. military leadership has directed its forces in the region to use the name “Arabian Gulf.” This is the term used by most of the states surrounding the Gulf. The U.S. Fifth Fleet, headquartered in Bahrain, uses the term “Arabian Gulf.”
