The Southeastern Conference and the Big Ten - the country's two most powerful college athletics conferences — agreed Friday night to support a sweeping Senate bill that would impose new federal rules on college sports.
The conferences have been wrangling with the Senate Commerce Committee for weeks over details of the bill - which would limit how large conferences could expand to and how much money they could spend compensating student athletes - as they said various iterations of legislative text tell short of addressing their outstanding

Who is Daniel Moraff?
Daniel Moraff is a former longtime organizer and leader within the Democratic Socialists of America
(DSA) who operated as a local and national figure in the mid-to-late 2010s before allowing his membership to lapse in 2019. He publicly argued in a since-deleted 2017 essay that socialists should run in Democratic primaries to gain political power, a strategy he implemented by recruiting and managing campaigns for candidates like Rep. Summer Lee.
What does he do now?
As of 2026, Moraff runs the Dark Forest consulting firm and serves as a top advisor to independent Nebraska Senate candidate Dan Osborn and Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner.
Reports indicate he played a central role in recruiting Platner through DSA networks and acted as his de-facto campaign manager amid various scandals, while also helping to recruit Osborn for his 2024 Senate race.
In 2025, he and his fiancée, Leanne Fan, identified and groomed Graham Platner for the Maine Sena V race, crafting a "working-class" image for the candidate despite Platner's privileged background.

California's most sweeping housing law in years takes effect July 1, and cities across the state are scrambling. Senate Bill 79, the Abundant and Affordable Homes Near
Transit Act, allows multifamily housing developments near major transit stops in eight urban counties, overriding local zoning restrictions. The affected counties are Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Santa Clara, Alameda, Sacramento, San Francisco and San Mateo. Neighborhoods currently zoned for single-family homes within a half-mile of qualifying rail or bus rapid transit stops can now see mid-rise apartment buildings.

Donald Trump has a long history of encouraging police to use aggressive tactics and physical force. During a 2017 speech to law enforcement, he told officers not to be "too nice" when arresting suspects, and suggested they stop protecting suspects' heads when placing them into squad cars. ® PBS +2

Basically: 1. How we cure ballots that might otherwise not be counted. (We want everyone who votes to have their vote counted). 2. When we can start counting. 3. When ballots arrive. 4. 40 million people (🤷🏼‍♂️ 20m voters?)

The law in California practically mandates a drawn-out count.
Ballots are mailed to every eligible voter - some 23 million of them - and the state has permissive rules for returning them.
They will be counted if they are postmarked by Election Day and arrive at an election office within seven days.
Only after the polls have closed and most of the country has gone to sleep can local election workers begin the lengthy process of verifying the legitimacy of the late-arriving mail ballots and then start to tabulate them.
If a voters' signature on the ballot envelope doesn't match what's on file, election officials are required to give those voters a chance to come in and prove their identity so the ballot will count, delaying a final tally further.
