Thank you to everyone who's told me you've pre-ordered A Dozen Dystopias and How to Dodge Them! So incredible to know so many of you have already ordered it, and this book will be in your mailbox or on your phone/e-reader the moment it's released from Bloomsbury Academic!!!
THIS IS NO APRIL FOOL! My book is coming April 1, 2027 from Bloomsbury Academic, and THIS is the cover! Can't wait for you to read and find out the science of our fave dystopian tales and how we can use that knowledge in the present.
It is with great joy that I announce that on Tues., Aug. 4, we'll reveal the cover of A Dozen Dystopias and How to Dodge Them, my feisty book on the real science behind fictional dystopian scenarios! It's coming April 1, 2027 from Bloomsbury Academic!!!
The roof of my car was buzzed by one of these once. What's your sign?
Sometimes I sing silly songs to Bo when I think we're alone on the trail, and it turns out there's someone right behind us 😅
My story "The Icarus Enforcer" is in this anthology. Apply to be an ARC reader: forms.gle/UhRzaQaaFT... If you've been watching the progress of my nonfiction book about dystopian fiction, and wondering how I would write dystopian fiction myself, this is chance to find out.
I made this reminder that the science of dystopias is on its way!!! The official cover reveal of A Dozen Dystopias and How to Dodge Them is coming soon! Also can’t wait to share what’s inside the book (of course!) but we’ll have to wait a little longer for that part.
This 36K novella is one of the projects that came out of my writing retreat last month ... five days of writing in a cozy spot in the rainy summer woods to be inspired to finish and polish something you've been building for years.
The less than 1% of us who have central heterochromia need a "choose as many as apply" option for eye color on driver's licences.😅
Jumping into another session of drafting FROM MUSHROOMS TO THE MOON. Guess I should make some tea? Not mushroom tea, & def not THIS mushroom; this is Amanita muscaria I found, and yep, it's poisonous. Rarely fatal, but I'm still not drinking any Amanita tea.
This week while on writing retreat, I did ✨something new✨ for my Paper Stars series. This new piece of work/new perspective on it helped me understanding even more why the works in this world are so important to me.
I can't wait for so many more readers to get lost in the gorgeous world of THE OATHS THAT BIND US! Lee (Lee A. Everett) was the very first client I signed, and OATHS is magical, enthralling, and a fresh approach to so many classic fantasy elements. Stay tuned for this one!
Cover reveal for the sci-fi hopepunk anthology I edited with Inked in Gray Press! 18 talented authors explore the role of hope at the extremes of human experience. So excited for you to meet these stories and their grimdark worlds. Preorder here: tinyurl.com/3fbnzm8k
Look what I have! A signed ARC of the lovely and brilliant GHOST ORCHID by my marvelous critique partner Dani Cessna. And stickers! With a ghost orchid and a ZZ plant that looks just like the ZZ on my desk! ❤️❤️❤️
"The Icarus Enforcer" is a near-future sci-fi story of mine that will be coming out soon in the anthology Hope is Not Passive from Quill & Cosmos Press. The title character is an Icarus Civil Enforcer and things do NOT end well for him.
Feeling inspired to share this. Whatever path you're taking to sharing your writing with the world, traditional, indie, or hybrid, it takes time. And you, and your work, are worth it.
This is some really fun art I commissioned of Emi, the female main character in my work-in-progress, Guests and Galaxies, a sci-fi romcom! Been writing it slowly and steadily the last few weeks. Love the way the artist perfectly captured Emi's attitude here!!!
Another gorgeous character art piece by Nath. Here are two of the main characters in my Paper Stars series. The artist absolutely captured the WONDER that hits like a freight train (or a rogue spaceship?) when they're reunited after 20 years, and I love them so much.
Unveiling some *incredible* character art by Nathalia Ratio! This is Harrow, the cybernetically enhanced physician-healer from my Paper Stars series (which I have been shouting about since 2019 and I swear I WILL get to share it with you one day--and it will be worth the wait)!
We've taken Bo on his weekly excursion to the farmer's market and now it's time for a quiet Saturday afternoon at home.
My MG nonfiction book on the urban heat island effect has its official title now! BEAT THE HEAT: COOLING OFF CITIES IN A WARMING WORLD is coming Sept. 2027 from Orca Books (w me writing as Alexandra Vivelo)! It's full of kid-friendly science & fun ways we can keep cities cool. 🌞
New Booker Albert Agency newsletter just dropped, featuring my client Millie Abecassis and her lovely sci-fantasy THE COLOR OF TIME, which comes out tomorrow!!! booker-albert-litera...
I am knitting a pastel version of the bi flag scarf and listening to submissions on text to speech and this is basically the ideal for a Saturday morning. That's ink on my thumb, not dirt on your screen. ;)
Am writing about the panspermia hypothesis for From Mushrooms to the Moon (Bloomsbury Academic, year TBD), and now I have an earworm, "Spores in spaaaaace!" said like, "Piiiiigs iiin spaaaaaaace!"
Not one, not two, but EIGHT cover options landed in my inbox for #ADozenDystopiasAndHowToDodgeThem!!! I completely love more than one of them, but one favorite stood out above the rest. Can't wait until I can show you all what it looks like!
A rare moment captured on camera: me holding my amazing client @millieabecassis.com's extraordinary fairy tale-in-space, The Color of Time...it's my first time ever to hold a physical copy of a client book! Celebrate with me, because this is very special and there will only ever be one first time 🎉
