I never drank energy drinks until two of my coworkers at the music venue also worked doing Monster distribution and would bring backpacks full to work. I’d devour the juice ones. This was actually the last picture I took there before we shut for COVID. haven’t drank any since, but this sounds delish

God I love The Return of The Living Dead. I’d seen it probably 5 times before, but the highlight was seeing it presented by Count Gore de Vol last summer at AFI Silver.

Just saw Hokum in theater. Highly highly recommend. I was a big fan of McCarthy’s other films Caveat and Oddity, and have enjoyed Adam Scott in horror since I first saw Hellraiser Bloodline, so it wasn’t a hard sell for me. Really good building dread and atmosphere and effective jump scares.

I’m crying. Wishbone was such a huge part of my childhood. I would have been a reader regardless, but I know so many classics because of this little dog. I still have my Wishbone stuffed animal from one of the PBS telethons that my parents gave money to.

I love this photo of me and my Sally from when I was a child. We are posed so awkwardly because she was probably curled up on my pillow before this and she was big and heavy to tiny me so this was as far as I could move her. Note the space jam stickers on the wall, doubles of the same sheet.

How many national guard does it take to stand around and do nothing? (I’m so rarely downtown anymore, and this sight still makes me furious)

6 members of the National Guard standing / leaning against the rail at Metro Center Station. They are talking to one another and on their phones. There are relatively few other people around for the size of the station.

I saw the @museumbums.bsky.social book at the National Museum of Women in the Arts gift shop last month but did not buy it because it was on my holiday wish list. I finally got to open Secret Santa gifts today, and my Secret Santa had gotten it for me! Thank you @geeqshuq.bsky.social !

After a little snafu, the first issue of The End Times is here and in my hands @badhandbooks.bsky.social (my roommate claimed he didn’t see my name and thought it was junk so it got left out in the mail room. He has been now been informed otherwise) it’s so good, can’t wait to see what happens next!

The header reads “The End Times Issue No. 1 The Very most of the little we know August 5, Year 12” there is a box for an editors note, and small sections for Events, Births, and trade. (This is a serialized story being told through a monthly newspaper format set in a post apocalyptic scenario by Benjamin Percy, with Stephen King in future issues. Published by Bad Hand Books and printed by the Ortonville Independent in Minnesota. )

Just saw Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein in 35 mm at AFI Silver. Highly recommend seeing this on the big screen. The colors, the scenery, the costumes, etc. all deserve to be seen huge. (IMAX sounds amazing but the closest to me is New York)

As someone who rode green line for work for 5 years until recently, plus many random other trips through my life , may I offer you the holiday decorated trains as a consolation prize? (a terrible consolation prize I know, but I rode them many times on that line)

At the Library of Congress National Book Festival for horror author fun, but first I relived my childhood of going through the 50 state tables and got a little teary eyed seeing the IMLS sign from across the hall.

I doubt it’s based on any real machine. But it looks like this. In the beginning of the movie Dorothy is in a sanitarium getting electroshock to “fix her dreams”

The electroshock therapy machine from Return to Oz. It is a dark wooden case with a glass front. Inside are various metal pieces and dials and bells and such, but two round measurement pieces are prominent up top (sort of like old speedometers) and a straight piece with a moving metal arrow at the bottom, giving it a vaguely face like appearance

Update , took a few poor photos while walking by after leaving work today. Seems as if this van is a food and water location in front of NMNH? Also several of the Nat Guard had large visible rifles. There were a few not in these pictures
