Really not the outcome I hoped for. But Abdul has shown himself to be a gifted and disciplined communicator, and Michigan needs a Senator who actually will stand up for progressive principles and marginalized folks, not just whatever the consultant / donor classes think is politically expedient.
MDOT actually *more than doubled* the width of the viaduct over the Grand River. There are now 4 lanes there (and wider shoulders) instead of the previous 2!
As it happens I dug into this topic pretty deep when doing the research for www.detroittransit.org/wp-content/u... To put it succinctly: the state lit $350M of debt-financed funds on fire to dramatically and unnecessarily widen I-94 through Jackson. We'll be paying back that debt for a generation.

My criteria for anyone who really insists on making bike racks with a fun design: 1. Start with a simple, standard, outer shape (inverted U, staple, circle) 2. Interrupt that shape at *as few points as possible* to put a design in the center of the rack But mostly I'd rather people just not.
Better than most but I would still probably find them annoying. My city used to have these stupid "art" racks, and they often made it impossible, or at best very frustrating, for me to put a U Lock where it needed to go to properly grab a wheel + the frame.

... but the point is, agencies can deal with these issues & have done so successfully for over a century. But instead we're pulling down trolley wires and replacing them with unproven "solutions" that, even when we figure out how to make them work, they're still uh ... worse. Make it make sense!
The basic insight here is, adding chargers at bus stops along a route can mitigate the operational challenges of battery buses... Okay, but, you know what's an even better idea than "on-route charging" at fixed locations? In-motion charging! Which @sfmta.com and co. have already done for decades.

Today the inevitable happened - I locked up my ebike before realizing I'd left my keys at home. But thanks to The Ride it was no trouble to get back home and grab my keys... Transit is essential, and buses + bikes are better together!
