I still spend most of my time reading, and still sometimes feel like a lonely kid, although my podcast has made me less lonely. This may be something people who listen to podcasts don't understand: a lot of us, at least those of us who hosts shows on our own, do them not to wield our wild egos for the public, but simply to talk with people, to be heard, to listen, and to create warmth.
To gather as two and more.
Because these meetings are our first, podcasters are often vulnerable, trying constantly to regain ground with whoever it is we're talking to and to be clear for whoever we imagine is listening. This genuine act of trying to not drop the thread means lots of maneuvering, stretching of metaphors, seeing patterns that might be false or ridiculous, picking up on signals that might not be there. The result is that listeners might think we're being the most pretentious at the very moments we're exposing our vulnerability. Listen to whatever contentious episode of Rune Soup you like (or Against Everyone With Conner Habib, for that matter) with that in mind. See if it alters the tone.
