A great night in Savannah for the screening of Gregg Allman: The Music Of My Soul. Sold-out Lucas Theatre. 1,200 of us out in force. I sold every book I brought, enjoyed meeting so many of you and hanging with Richard Brent and my friends from The Big House. Our talk about Gregg was cathartic.

Just wonderful to see the master Taj Mahal and his Phantom Blues Band at Tedeschi Trucks Band’ Sun, Sand and Soul Festival on the Florida Gulf. So great to hear a kicking Straight blues band, which is a bit rare these days.

RIP to Scrap Iron, Phil Garner, sparkplug for the World Champion 1979 "We Are Family" Pittsburgh Pirates. He was always hustling around with a dirty uniform, was a great hitter - and looked like he could go out on the road with my emerging favorite, the Allman Brothers Band.

Guitar World interviewed Warren Haynes about the triple-pickup SG he was holding on the cover of the July 94 issue - which was the highlight of my career to that point and still stands tall for me. The guitar is now on display at The Big House Museum.

Another great night at The Capitol Theatre. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (and bassist Paul Kowert) playing the Grateful Dead was lovely. Full sound, some clever percussion touches and explorations that went beyond acoustic expectations.

More NJ food rules. A great NJ Italian deli should have at least one photo of the owner with a Sopranos cast member, at least one police or fireman hunched over a massive sandwich, and you should have to struggle to choose what to order. Jersey City's Salumeria Ercolano delivered.
