The young woman is fully dancing with an item in each hand. The timer reads 0:00:37, but it's almost completely obscured by a triplet note.

The young woman is dancing her heart out in the middle of the grocery store. Everyone around her is still frozen and not reacting. The music notes grow larger and more plentiful. The timer, now obscured by an eighth note, reads 0:00:05.

The young woman abruptly stops as she hears her phone beeping in her pocket. The timer is blinking and reads 0:00:00, indicating her time is up. The background also goes back to white.

The young woman looks around, finding herself in the exact same spot where she started the app's timer. Everyone has been reverted back to white and started moving again.

#MWE 2026 February 28th: Various Artists - CITY MUSIC TOKYO multiple Ending off this month of city pop with a simple compilation of city pop songs from scattered artists cuz sometimes the album can't tell you everything about a scene and you just need some select bops and bangers.

#MWE 2026 February 27th: Takako Mamiya - LOVE TRIP Fascinated to learn that this was a literal one album wonder that retired after the album underperformed, cuz this is legit fantastic! Amazing production and a great performer delivering some real bangers. Wish she could have done more.

#MWE 2026 February 26th: Taeko Onuki - Mignonne I ended up liking Sunshower a fair bit more but this still has a ton of great moments on it. Especially it's enormous closing song which really elevated this album for me.

#MWE 2026 February 25th: Piper - Summer Breeze Great little summer album. Didn't have too much that blew me away but it has some great little moments and a killer instrumental in "Night Shore".

#MWE 2026 February 24th: Toshiki Kadomatsu - Sea Is A Lady Holy shit, this one left me in shambles. Some of the best production and arrangement I've heard this month. A gorgeous arrangement of songs that are fun and exhilarating, perfect for that ideal coast drive that makes you feel truly alive.

#MWE 2026 February 23rd: Yumi Matsutoya - Voyager This album is so much fun. Great, ambitious songs with excellent grooves and hooks. Also one of my favorite cover arts of the list.

#MWE 2026 February 22nd: Taeko Onuki - Sunshower Spectacular album. Lots of phenomenally produced songs and catchy hooks, and Onuki is one hell of a vocalist. "Tokai" is one of my favorite songs of MWE so far.

#MWE 2026 February 21st: Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki & Tatsuro Yamashita - Pacific A collection of instrumental tropical songs from the three artists, and in fact the only Yamashita album on streaming. Very solid compositions, with Yamashita and Suzuki's being my favorites.

#MWE 2026 February 20th: Kingo Hamada - Midnight Cruisin A great nocturnal alternative to the other albums which are more built for the sun. Kingo Hamada sings his ass off on these and it makes for some great, late night heartbreak tunes.

#MWE 2026 February 18th: Minako Yoshida - Let's Do It This was soooo much fun! Probably the closest to the 80s pop that swept the Americas, but with a city pop edge and one of the most electric voices I've heard of the whole list. Fantastic stuff!

#MWE 2026 February 17th: S. Kiyotaka & Omega Tribe - Never Ending Summer I enjoyed this one quite a bit more than Aqua City! Incredibly fun, tight grooves with some great songs in the first half and an ambitious multipart piece in the second half. Really delighted by this one!

#MWE 2026 February 16th: Mariya Takeuchi - REQUEST This is one of the albums I saw brought up most in my research and it did not disappoint. Incredibly catchy and sweet. The run from Eki to Toki No Tabibito utterly floored me.

#MWE 2026 February 15th: Masayoshi Takanaka - An Insatiable High Seven songs of terrific arrangements and blissful music. Only one vocal track but every song is still distinct and gorgeous. By far my favorite Takanaka album and one of the best albums I’ve heard this month.
