Here’s the original un-cropped view, for context. (credit: SpaceX) Now I’m beginning to wonder if the cropped version has been upscaled? The amount of detail in the clouds vs the smoothness of the heat shield just looks a bit peculiar.

Today I finally finished all the modifications to my Zephyr rocket, including integration of its AlectroSat 3 electronics payload! The rocket is now ready for its fourth flight, launching this September. 🚀
I managed to catch a little bit of the aurora last night! I couldn’t see it with my own eyes, but the camera picked up a bit of the green toward the horizon.
I just saw Venus in broad daylight without the aid of a telescope! It was quite handy having the Moon so close by in the sky, serving as a great reference point. 🌒
I can’t tell you how infuriating it is to see the National Association of Rocketry using AI slop in their event advertisements. 😡😡😡
I wonder if anyone knows why there’s this Saturn 1B model just chillin’ in the corner of Baywatch headquarters? So far, I’ve noticed it in at least two episodes of Baywatch season 3, and it’s just there without explanation. Just curious. 😁
Wow, I didn’t realize how much taller the 2-stage Zephyr-TTV would be, compared to the Zephyr in its single-stage configuration. There’s a good chance BOTH configurations will fly this September! 🚀
The payload for my Zephyr rocket’s 4th flight, called AlectroSat 3, is getting closer to completion. I recently installed the buzzer, which will provide an audible signal indicating the payload is powered on. Fun fact: don’t mount buzzers close to magnetometers, since they have magnets inside them.

My Zephyr rocket just got a camera pod installed on its nosecone ahead of its next flight (scheduled for September). It should get some pretty cool downward-looking views!
Lately I've been working on an IMU for one of my rockets, and I came up with this little animated video to display the data. This is the result so far. Note, this is not data from an actual flight; it's just data from a ground test. I'd be pretty worried if the rocket pitched that much in flight! 😁
