A happy post today. This is my setting as I drink my morning coffee. My oldest son has been accepted for a great college; my youngest is snoozing on sofa. My dogs are fed and happy. I won two tennis matches this week. Fine weather all w/e. In this troubled world, I’m v grateful for such moments.

I know this administration has shameless gall, but I really had to rub my eyes at this one - JD Vance (a convert) presuming to lecture the pope on matters of theology! The arrogance, conceit and presumption is just breathtaking.
So much is at stake with this war. The international system, and the values and alliances underpinning it, were flailing long before Trump, but this reckless, heedless, war in Iran could be final nail in the coffin. The irony is that it destroys US’s own standing, credibility and influence as well.

There’s a typo; it shd read “Mandelson’s disgrace raises far bigger questions than Starmer’s judgement. The shame is on all of Westminster’s political classes, who have shown themselves repeatedly willing to turn a blind eye to ethical lapses within their midst, when it has suited them politically.
I’ve been stalwart backer of transatlantic alliance all my life. I understand why Europeans have so far trod softly/tried to keep Trump onside. But, there comes a time when you have to face reality. The US is no longer our ally. Its defense guarantee is worthless. Time to kick ass back🧵
