There was never any better way to travel than by taking a Union Pacific-Milwaukee Road "Cities" train - especially when it came to dining. Whether it was enjoying some great French Toast for breakfast or cutting into a succulent steak in the evening, dome dining couldn't be beat.
How I WISH things could still be like this. #UnionPacific #MilwaukeeRoad #Citiestrains
I think it's also to important to remember the way things used to be and what we lost on that fulcrum weekend of 4-30-71 thru 5-2-71.
Everything appears to be a "go" for later on today for a good chunk of Illinois and western/central Indiana. Long-tracked and intense tornadoes are a very real possibility in this area today so stay weather-alert.
For those of you in Illinois and Indiana, tomorrow (Wednesday 6-17) could likely be a very dangerous day with a major tornado outbreak possible. Stay safe and stay weather-aware.
It's going to be a busy day back home in eastern Iowa as well as northern Illinois today. Stay safe everyone.

On National Train Day and being the dedicated railroader (and foamer) that I am, I think it's only appropriate to give a huge S/O to the most beautiful passenger trains of all - the Union Pacific-Milwaukee Road "Cities" trains!
Would love to see this happen for my home state of Iowa but I would call it Amtrak's Midwest Hiawatha and extend it to CBLUF-Omaha.
Just another one of those days where I wish the Union Pacific-Milwaukee Road "Cities" trains were still running.
Seems hard to believe that today is the 70th anniversary of the "Big Switch" that saw @union-pacific.bsky.social switch its "Cities" passenger trains from traditional Overland Route partner CNW to MILW for the Chicago-Omaha segment.
