For the last 11 months I’ve been running a #StarTrekAdventures campaign with 6 wonderful friends and today we ended our 1st season. The premise for the story is the USS Dauntless (from Prodigy) is sent back to the Delta Quadrant to find the fate of the Borg. Here’s the synopses for season 1’s eps:
While I didn’t love episodes 7-9 of #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy as much as the 1-6, I really enjoyed the season finale “Rubincon.” IMO the Kurtzman-era has struggled with finales, but SFA delivers a barnstormer that gave almost every character something important to do and made for a riveting climax.
“Why are they wearing TOS uniforms?” They’re…clearly not? No rank on the sleeves, the glint off the delta means it’s a badge. Why is it not possible that these Starfleet uniforms took inspiration from the 23rd century? And why is everyone’s media literacy SO BAD??? #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy
“Come, Let’s Away” but stay for the absolutely crackling scenes between two of #StarTrek’s most talented performers - Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti. The pilot’s “origami chicken” scene is a C+ compared to the A++ of dialogue and performances in this episode. MORE PLEASE. #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy
Kerrice Brooks makes the most interesting and compelling acting choices as Sam in “Series Acclimation Mil” that makes this episode so rewatchable. I’ve seen it four times already and every time I’m catching some new line reading, look, or gesture that enthralls me. #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy
I’ve been doing a #Stargate SG-1 rewatch (currently in season 5) and going back to this show after Trump, Venezuela, Greenland, tariffs etc it’s comforting and a little jarring to watch the US military exploring the galaxy and being fundamentally good and ethical.
“Vox in Excelso” is a real gem and the first #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy episode where I said to myself: I think I might love this show? This is, in my opinion, the best Klingon episode since DS9 and the high stakes drama totally works in the context of a grounded character episode. A+ world building.
It’s never too early to start planning what ornaments you want on next year’s Christmas tree. #StarTrek
How you feel about Captain Ake’s posture makes a strong statement about how socially well adjusted you are. Those who live in the real world with actual people know it doesn’t fucking matter how you sit in a chair; it matters how you lead, how you teach, and how you lift people up. #StarfleetAcademy
You know the problem with modern #StarTrek? Old Star Trek would NEVER have thought to show one of its characters show a serious character flaw because of something as silly as a sports game and use that to show growth and have to learn to be a better person. SMH.
#StarTrek would NEVER show its officers engaging in unbecoming trash talking 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 So unprofessional. 🙄
My favorite reaction to this are the people who are like “I’m getting serious YA vibes from this” - wow really what could possibly have given you that idea? Your perceptions are so refined!! (This is rad by the way. Love that the show is picking a unique vibe for Star Trek) #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy
The announcement today of a new #Stargate show that lives in the same world as previous TV shows is a dream come true and one I genuinely thought was impossible as we’ve started moving out of the Peak TV era. I cannot wait to see what’s coming.
$250 opening bid for this screen used Voyager combadge that looks *suspiciously* like the base of Kira Nerys Playmates action figure (the little peg is for the hole on the figure’s foot so it stays standing up.) Sign me up! #StarTrek
#StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds hits a new ratings high for modern #StarTrek since Nielsen started tracking streaming for the week of “Shuttle to Kenfori” by slightly besting the prior week’s double bill. Probably lots of people spacing out those first two, but still hugely encouraging.
Go see #Thunderbolts! It’s fun, funny, thoughtful, and emotional. It has something to say, and it’s either a nice sequel to Black Widow and Falcon & Winter Soldier OR an introduction to some of your new favorite MCU characters - you choose. I’m very happy with it!
#StarTrek First Contact does a great job of making you wait to see the Borg invading the Enterprise. There are 3-4 scenes on the ship about the Borg before you even see them - when Picard mounts his first counteroffensive. Ratchets the tension and has a big payoff.
Today’s completed #StarTrek model - the USS Stargazer. 1:1400 scale, kit, base and decals by Horner Shipyards.
The latest model I built: USS Excalibur from the #StarTrek New Frontier novels. Captain Mackenzie Calhoun!
#StarTrek Section 31 fell off the Nielsen Top 10 this week. The number 10 entry this week was watched for 140m minutes, so S31 was watched *at most* 309m minutes in its first 9 days (but we don’t know the exact number). For comparison, here are how other Trek episodes have charted for their week…
My fav moment in Rascals is when kid Picard decides to take command while the Ferengi are attacking the Enterprise but thoughtfully closes his book before leaving his quarters symbolically closing the book on his archeological future and committing to Starfleet. It’s ridiculous. LOVE IT #StarTrek
