I'll be real, I've been going through some burnout. It's why I've been doing a bunch of sketchbook doodles opposed to full-fledged pieces as of late. It'll pass. I'm gonna go to a con with friends in September, and I feel that'll give me the much needed refresh.

I took a nap earlier, and I had a dream I was at a flea market. Someone had this silly Ultraman rolly toy that'd play his theme song. (More detail in the alt text) So of course I wanted it...but then I woke up before I could pay the vendor. 🙃 #ultraman #dreamconcept #artwork #sketch

A pencil sketch of a toy I saw in a dream. It was shaped like a tennis racket with an illustration on it of Ultraman fighting a kaiju (I forgot who it was, so I used Alien Baltan in my sketch). It had a big wheel that, when pushed along (like a Fisher-Price "push popper" toy), it would play the Ultraman theme song via the same instrumentation an old jack-in-the-box would use.

The Iron Giant was a toy included with VHS releases, and the Godzilla is Super7's Godzilla 1967 ReAction figure.

It's just a cheap night light I found at Dollar Tree. I did think of those novelty lights, since it works the same way, but seeing how it's blank...well, anything blank can be customized.

Got a little experimental today. Dollar Tree has these night lights for only $1.50 apiece. Being the opportunistic artist I am, I saw a blank slate. Took about an hour-and-a-half to etch Godzilla's face into it! #godzilla #artwork #etching

I drew Godzilla's roaring face onto it with a marker, then did the etching with a carving tool. Once finished, I wiped away the markers (using an alcohol swab), then plugged it in.

A painting of Hedorah, towers menacingly, staring with bulbous, red eyes. Behind it is a factory with thick clouds of smoke billowing out of two smokestacks.

I painted the piece primarily using green and purple to not only emphasize the toxic, oily pollution that spawned the creature (both in-universe and conceptually), but taking inspiration from fellow artist Bob Eggleton in how some of his pieces use green (as he put it, it can be a very modular color). A photo of the green, algae infested Reflecting Pool, as the smog monster Hedorah (from a painting I made in 2018) is poking up from it.

It is by sheer coincidence that I had used primarily green when I had painted the kaiju.

A friend of mine shared this with me (I'm definitely Aro, but not Ace as far as I know). I felt this explained a lot about me. It'd be like "I wanna be their friend and make art with them all day" kinda attraction. But like you said, it's complex. There is no one-size-fits-all.
