The neighborhood where my daughter takes ballet classes is having a puppy adoption day in front of various businesses.
A life size version of the Amazing Prizzini Brothers is up at my school, so that’s awesome.
Alice break! We discovered a lovely little old cemetery walk, which Alice loved. (st. George’s gardens, which became a little Victorian park in the 19th century.) Here is the tombstone of one of Oliver Cromwell’s grandchildren:
It’s also got an exhibition on rebellion and on Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun. (Including a portrait of them as students painted by their teacher Ian Fleming.)
And it had the story of Benjamin Mayo, who would take children up to the castle on their days off to demand sweets.
Although it’s had recent financial troubles, it re-opened in 2023, and is a lovely place. Its Amin gallery had a little section on circus arts.
They have the original memoir, which was written by his wife, Lucy, so he would not be forgotten.
Nottingham castle, in addition to have Mortimer’s Hole (highly recommend the tour!) is also a brilliant art museum.
The town is crazily young, especially for an English city. It’s vibrant and thriving and awesome. Also, it has the grave of good King Richard III, which is what we came here for.
Last year, we spent the fourth in our basement, huddling with our dog and comforting her treats as our neighbors shot off mirrors in the park next to our house. We spent this year on Hamstead Heath on a perfect night. Highly recommend, will do again.

Happy D-Day anniversary, back when the U.S. was still interested in fighting fascists. Here’s a picture of my grandfather in France, after he leapt from a plane on D-Day with the rest of the 101st.
