These wise guardians of Madeira’s ancient laurel forest are among the oldest living organisms in Europe - some believed to be up to 1,000 years old. The Laurisilva is the world’s largest remaining primeval laurel forest, dating back to the dinosaurs, surviving almost 600 years of human cohabitation.
