you put a meassage in a tube, and vacuum or air pressure pushes it to the other end of the tube. I think some large hospitals still use them for getting medicine etc from one place to another
I think part of the antipathy of euros for AC is the "every man for himself" aspect for it. If you want the big euro urban centers to adopt AC, it is far easier from a sociopolitical aspect if it's done along the lines of public transit
