Long Northern European summer nights do exist ... sometimes ... and then they are glorious.
Back in my hometown for a few days... I do love to sit in a cafe with my feet in the sand opposite the harbour watching ships pass by. Cranes, ships, dogs ... „Industrieromantik". It helps that the sun shines #Hamburg
I like to think of my rainy hike at Queen Charlotte Sound during the current heatwave. Following Georg Forster’s footsteps thorough glorious New Zealand last year #TheTraveller
An absolute joy to see this amazing review of 'The Traveller' finally in print in the New York Times.
The Dutch edition of "The Traveller" is Nr.7 on @nrc.nl bestseller list. Yeah @atlascontact.bsky.social
“The Traveller” in today’s Sunday Times: 40 Best Summer Reads. Thank you
We added lots more events to the UK tour for "The Traveller". Come along.
This is the Korean edition of "Magnificent Rebels". Happy to send a signed copy for free to anyone in the UK. DM me.
Yesterday I started at 4am in Buffalo and ended the day with a talk at the glorious Charleston Library Society. One of my favourite places in the US. I think this is my 6th talk in Charleston. #BookTours #The Traveller
'The Traveller' is Book of the Week in 'Review of Reviews' in THE WEEK. Very exciting. And incidentally, there is also a mention of my review of Maggie O'Farrell's amazing "Land" (which I loved). Double whammy!
Thrilled to be on Start the Week on BBC Radio 4 tomorrow morning at 9am to discuss George Forster and my new book "The Traveller".
I wrote a piece in The Observer about George Forster and “The Traveller”.
It’s publication day of "The Traveller". It's raining and there is a tube strike in time for the launch tonight but it's prefect reading weather. I take that as a good sign. I can't wait for you to meet the extraordinary George Forster. #TheTraveller
The US edition of "The Traveler" arrived today. It looks stunning! Thank you to @aaknopf. US pub date is 9 June. I'll be doing talks in NY, DC, Buffalo and Charleston. Details are on my website. Come. Listen. Read. And be enthralled by the remarkable George Forster.
I love receiving foreign editions ... this one is the tiny 2-volume paperback Japanese edition of INVENTION OF NATURE which just arrived. I have 3 copies to give away (only to UK addresses). DM me or email me (my email is on my website).
Here are my 'The Traveler' tour dates for the US this June (I'm having to get used to spelling the title of my book differently ... 'The Traveller' in the UK and 'The Traveler' in the US). Please come - links to the events are on my website.
Better get my hands on a few of these. New stamps in Germany celebrating 50-years of Georg-Forster Antarctic station. Of course after the protagonist of my forthcoming book “The Traveller”
We forgot Edinburgh ... here is the complete list of "The Traveller"tour dates for the UK.
Here are the dates for my UK publicity tour for "The Traveller. The Revolutionary Life of George Forster and his Search for Humanity". Can't wait to tell you all about this man who tried to find what connects us rather than what sets us apart. And he was Humboldt's mentor. Please come!
When I followed George Forster’s footsteps through the South Pacific, we made a trailer for „The Traveller“. Forster was a man far ahead of his time. A man who fought racism and who believed in humanity. Book comes out in June 2026 #GeorgeForster #books
I will never get tired of the moment when I receive the first copy of my book. 5 years... it all starts in my head but now it's really really real. An object with pages, words and illustrations. #TheTraveller
Schoß Oberwiederstedt where Novalis was born. Rescued by locals from being razed during GDR times. Today a museum. I had the honour of speaking there yesterday to celebrate 25th anniversary of the Novalis-Stiftung.
I have amazing readers. I did a talk last night in Hermsdorf (it’s a pretty small town not far from Jena with 8000 inhabitants). More than 100 very smart people turned up on a Friday night to hear me talk about the rebellious young Romantics. I do love doing talks in small towns. #booktours
The Desert Garden at Huntington Botanical Gardens always blows my mind. Every single time.
Goodbye Santa Fe and to the view of the most beautiful office. Very conducive to thinking.
Mostly I’m working and doing stuff you do when your book is published soon #writers #southwest
