I’ll say it again: if your business model depends on stealing other people’s work, your business shouldn‘t exist.

I'm usually willing to cut actual human beings, as opposed to for-profit corporations, some slack where it comes to cracking DRM, or even downloading warez: but these people are absolute scum. They're stealing copyrighted material to train an LLM that is intended to compete for revenue with the authors of the works they stole, and they're fine-tuning their LLMs to make them as addictive as possible in order to maximize future revenue once they pivot to token sales as their main source of income. In other words, they're no different from a burglar who robs you one day then comes round to sell you your stuff back the next morning. Back in the 18th century we used to hang people like that and Sam Altman makes me question the wisdom of having stopped.

This mindset scales all the way up to some of the most powerful people in human history, but it is the same all the way down. It amounts to the belief that only these particular wimpy pink goofs, each one the protagonist of reality, can be entrusted to run things, and that any problem can be solved by telling some underling to handle it, and also to the idea that such an order becomes a glorious and vindicating solution immediately after it is issued. Nothing that follows will ever be their fault. Provided you do not care about or pay attention to the world, this worldview absolutely rocks.

Socioeconomic circumstances are more powerfully associated with brain function and structure than other variables. The dominant socioeconomic brain pattern matches the known effects of sleep deprivation and stress (primary motor and sensory) while sparing higher-order cognitive regions in the frontal and parietal cortices. Thus, it appears most likely that environmental factors indexed by neighborhood socioeconomic status, including sleep and stress, strongly shape childhood brain organization.
