6 different levels of Girl Scouts (Daisy K and 1st, Brownie 2nd-3rd, Junior 4th-5th, Cadette 6th-8th, Senior 9th-10th, Ambassador 11th-12th) While younger GS are mastering the basics of the 5 Skills, older GS have been building their cookie business for years+ are amazing entrepreneurs! 16/

By all means - buy online from Girl Scouts that you connect with, support your cousin's kid, and respect the hustle of an internet sensation, but please support your local Girl Scouts TOO. Their proceeds fund local GS programs and camps, and those GS are giving back to your community. 15/

Girl Scout Cookie Rewards and sales goals vary from council to council, but generally individual GS rewards are fun prizes in this year's "cookie mascot." Most councils also offer "GS cookie bucks" as rewards - coupon codes that can be used to pay for council sponsored GS camps and programs. 13/

LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND SELLING  Girl Scouts are learning 5 SKILLS through the GS cookie program! While I see a lot of scoffing at parents helping online sales, all councils provide individual cookie websites for each GS, and the GS are to be engaged at all ages with their digital cookie business! 12/

Most troops will profit <$2K-$10K each cookie season (obviously there are outliers + "viral" situations)... since troops are "Girl-led," the Girl Scouts vote on what to do with their cookie money! Cookie proceeds are TROOP money and to be spent to benefit the entire troop. 10/

Most GS troops will get about 20% of the sale each box (~ $1 per box) - while I am sure we would love to get a larger cut, I am fine with cookie proceeds also paying for our camp properties we enjoy, hosting STEM /Girl Scout activities, and the staff at council to keep this organization running. 8/

COOKIE FUNDS Each council selects GS cookie baker, dictates rules on how Girl Scouts can sell and is the recipient of % of the cookie sales to fund programming, staffing and maintain GS camp properties. NO cookie proceeds go to GSUSA (I see it falsely claimed often) - it truly does stay local.💚 7/

Each council also dictates cookie season structure - "pre-sales" (collect paper/digital orders, then troops order cookies based on actual orders) followed by booths, OR "cookies in hand" direct sale from start where troops order cookies and their season counts on restocking locally over season. 4/

Each council contracts with one of the two Girl Scout cookie bakers and seasons are staggered across the US Starting November through April (yes there are councils selling cookies in Nov/Dec!) to help with cookie supply. Regional temps are a factor when GS sell (we don't want cookies melting!) 3/

COUNCILS and BAKERS- There are 112 GSUSA councils across the USA, and each is independent responsible for their own troops, camps and cookie seasons. Map circa 2011 condensing 312 to 112 for more uniform GS experiences and management. 2/

Did you know top selling Girl Scout cookies every year are Thin Mints followed by Samoas and then Tagalongs? Distant 4th place is Do-Si-Dos … but I think Exploremores might sneak out 4th place this year with “new” factor! For you math nerds - my two troops selling 1.5 months in (waiting on booths).

I low key hate when they start over with new vests for new levels - they seem empty! Both just started current vests in September! Here are their old vests after 2 years! Both had extras sewn on the inside since we couldn’t fit them all! We are active troops + cookie funds pay for most of the fun!

Search your council name + “how the cookie crumbles” tells you breakdown. National GS does not get any $ - council (in charge of camps and programming), SU and troops get the funds. Cookies are the best fundraiser troops can do relatively easily and pay for so many experiences. Support all the GS!
