I was boggled in Amsterdam by the cultural right-of-way priorities assigned to bikers, cars, and pedestrians - cars came in dead last. The given is that people using feet and pedals come first. Look at the lives that attitude saves.

Research shows that in 1970, the Netherlands experienced 245 traffic fatalities per million people, almost as high as the U.S. rate at 257 per million. At that time, the U.S. actually had a much lower rate of fatality when measured in relation to fatalities per miles driven. But by 2019, the fatality rate in the. Netherlands had dropped to just 34 per million – now 70% lower than that in the U.S.

Even more astounding area the outcomes for different classes of road users. For example, traffic fatality rates for pedestrians have been trending upward in the U.S. for the last ten years. Yet in the Netherlands, who just 50 years ago experienced disproportionately high fatality rates for people on foot vs. people in vehicles – just like the U.S. – has now not only decreased fatality rates considerably, they fatality rate for people on foot and for people in vehicles is now nearly identical at just 23 per million.

Compare that to the U.S. today where the pedestrian risk of fatality in 2019 was 686 per million – 8 times that of people in vehicles. Even people inside vehicles are in the U.S. are at much greater risk of dying in a motor vehicle crash than any class of road users in the Netherlands – including people on foot and people on bikes.

I knew they were gaining in influence. Again, if you're awake and breathing, you knew that, too. But what they're wreaking on people for - an example - owning a bookstore, because they've decided it's "demonic" - good god. Not gonna sleep well tonight. 4/4

Deliverance leaders told me that they identified demons by the ways a person might be tormented. Feelings of worthlessness was Belial. Sexual confusion could be Jezebel. Anger could be Thor, who was under the command of Odin. The Brewers estimated that they’d delivered many hundreds of people, enough that they decided they were ready to move into the next phase of spiritual warfare. This meant identifying higher-ranking territorial demons, which involved a process that Andrea called determining the “narrative of hell” over the region.

Across the street, the Brewers turned a conference room at the Well into what they called a “war room.” They put maps of all the surrounding counties on the walls, representing what they considered their spiritual theater of operation. Meanwhile, Andrea began doing research into Tennessee laws and found an old statute banning cabaret performances within 1,000 feet of a church. The Brewers sent the information to the local district attorney, the police, the sheriff, and city and county commissioners. Soon, a wider circle of activists and pastors became involved in the cause, including one who had recently held a book burning in the town of Mt. Juliet, about three hours away.

NPR compounds a bad mistake here. The network can't *know* what happened, but reports Totenberg's account as fact. Not "Here's what Totenberg says happened", but: "Here's what happened." Nina Totenberg has never given any reason to question her honesty, and I don't. But this isn't how it's done.
