I’ve been working closely with local CROs, Ministers and colleagues, and the CEO of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to ensure every possible option is considered regarding call out payments.

Coastguard Rescue Officers (CROs) do an invaluable service for our coastal communities in South East Cornwall to keep us safe, no matter the conditions. We truly appreciate the efforts that they put in day in, day out.

It has been an exciting time for The Story of Emily in St Ive, near Liskeard over the past couple of months. Their hard work has been recognised through awards, and they recently celebrated the centenary of Emily Hobhouse, who the museum is dedicated to.

What another spectacular Liskeard Show! We had some fantastic weather, but I’m sure many of us are ready for a break from this heatwave! It was an honour to speak again as South East Cornwall’s MP and celebrate the best of our agricultural sector.

On BBC Politics South West, I welcomed Cornwall’s bus franchise pilot, which looked at the way buses operate in other areas, and how we can apply those principles to more rural communities. Cornwall is one of only three areas in the UK to be part of this type of pilot!

It was great to be back at Looe Community Academy to meet with the Headteacher and members of staff. We had an honest conversation about some of the challenges the school is facing, alongside the exciting work underway to improve outcomes for pupils.

I know that we need to take action to address concerns about NHS dentistry. So, I’ve raised our needs in Parliament to the Department for Health and Social Care and demanded a meeting to discuss the urgency of fixing recruitment and retention issues in areas like ours.

Continuing to take action to support defibrillator access, I have written a letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care about what steps are being taken to ensure that support is available to maintain defibrillators and to improve public awareness about CPR and defibrillator use.

Sir David Attenborough has spent his life helping us to see the beauty and wonder of the natural world. During a recent debate in Parliament about a permanent national monument in his honour, I raised the importance of ensuring any work is designed and created by British artists.

TamarTag applications are now available fully online, which is good progress to save people time and make it a bit easier to access essential services across the Tamar. But it’s a measure that should already have been in place for years. We need technology that is fit for 2026.

I recently met with representatives from Sheviock Parish Council in Tredis to speak more about the issues that they have faced with an energy provider hiking up their defib energy bill from £144 a year to £1400. I am pleased that the supplier has taken appropriate steps to address their concerns.

I attended a deeply moving event in Parliament to celebrate the life of Jo Cox, 10 years after she was murdered. We thought of her family, friends, and everyone in her life who loved her.

We must protect our children and vulnerable people from harmful content online. We know that modern social media algorithms go much further than simply hosting content, it’s not a community noticeboard anymore. When a company decides what millions of people see online, responsibility should follow.

South East Cornwall needs more dental services! Living in the constituency, I know what a nightmare it is trying to access a dentist, we need improvements and I'm working hard to make this happen. I recently spoke more about this issue on Radio Cornwall.

Hospitality is a vital part of our economy in South East Cornwall, and with the summer season beginning to ramp up, I recently spoke in an important debate in Parliament about support for seasonal hospitality businesses in coastal areas like ours.

I am working alongside the Resuscitation Council UK to encourage defibrillator guardians to check that their devices are working correctly. Defibs are life-saving bits of kit. I’m working with a local Parish Council and community groups to ensure that they remain operational.

I am determined to deliver fairer transport for local people in South East Cornwall. The Tamar crossings are a key issue for our area and sit at the top of the agenda for many of us. I’ve been making the case that they support regional connectivity and nationally significant economic activity.

Thank you to Cornwall Air Ambulance, who recently came up to Parliament for an event. I’ve been supporting this incredible charity. They want to ensure that they are included in national emergency and prioritisation planning, so I have raised this issue with the Leader of the House.

My team and I have now actioned over 20,000 cases since I was elected as your MP, and I’m incredibly proud of the hard work that goes into supporting people across South East Cornwall.

As your MP, I often engage with our local councillors from across the political spectrum to speak about the issues affecting us in South East Cornwall. In a recent meeting, we particularly focused on the Tamar crossings. We must work together to deliver fairer transport for local people.

I recently spoke with Dr Alec Forsyth about the importance of studying how to grow plants in further education. Horticulture (the science of growing fruit, veg, trees etc), is important for rural farming communities so that we can be innovators in the field and drive future sustainable growth.

Great news! Three schools in South East Cornwall have been successful in their bids to secure a share of the £450 million Condition Improvement Fund. I want to congratulate the schools and thank everyone involved who took the time to bid for the funding.

Both teams have worked hard to keep Looe’s residents, visitors and businesses safe. Our emergency services face extra pressures in peak visitor seasons. That’s why in Parliament I emphasised the importance of fair funding to further support our emergency services in busy periods.

In their response I am glad that they are taking the issues seriously. They are listening to concerns and have already taken steps to move from 'Requires improvement' to 'Good' under CQC ratings, and will carry on working hard so patients see improvements over the next few months.
