PNW potter, baker, knitter, lefty church lady, mom of a teenager. Trying to love my neighbor but dang, it’s hard these days! She/her. Aka Vanilla Bean Ceramics!
Happy 5th potterversary to me! I made these mugs today, and I can’t wait to see how the rainbow “sprinkles” turn out. I’m gonna add bright pink glaze, we are leaning into the cupcake vibes, it’ll be the cheeriest mug! #pottery
Made mini oatmeal cream pies tonight. Have to wait till tomorrow to eat them (they need to hang out in the fridge for a bit to meld and soften), but they’re worth the wait!
I will be making pancakes for dinner tonight (American, diner-style), and I usually make Swedish semlor but am skipping it this year for various reasons. Here’s a pic from 2023, when Fat Tuesday was also my birthday!
My husband just peeled what is probably the biggest clove of garlic that either of us have ever seen, good LORD
The problem with making marbled red and pink cake for Valentine’s Day shenanigans is that the batter looks disconcertingly meaty.
When you’re an adult you can just order a big ol’ box of Pocky straight from the company! No one can stop you!
We got a seat like this and a little step stool. The small seat made it less scary for him to get onto the toilet, he didn’t feel like he was going to fall in. And it didn’t require an adult to put a separate kid seat on every time.
Well, this is exactly the sort of thing I love to see on an official government website. www.hud.gov#openModal
It doesn’t help with the intentional tearing-down of the systems that help keep us safe, of course, but I have found this app to be very useful for getting informed of outbreaks/recalls/etc! Pictures of products, map of affected states, all easy to see at a glance. Not free but worth it to me.
I got my gilded little dalahäst trinket dish back from the kiln, and I love it so! #pottery
Thanks!! Glaze colors inspired by this dress, which I’m sure you recognize, let’s see if I can get it close!
Going outside my comfort zone at the pottery studio with this big vase! I almost never carve things, and when I do it’s usually simple geometric stuff. I don’t ever freehand things like this! (There are already parts that didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to, but that’s the way it goes 🤷♀️)
I am getting pressure to use AI at work, and I DON’T WANT TO. I can think for myself! I want to learn how to make excel do the thing I need it to do, and clarify my own thinking in the process!! I find myself thinking the last lines of this a lot.
I didn’t make any semlor this year - bread or ceramic - but here are the teeny ceramic ones I made last year (they’re pendants!) and both kinds that I made the year before. Happy Fat Tuesday! #ceramics #pottery #semlor #fattuesday
I signed up to do church coffee hour today, because I LOVE baking for Valentine’s Day. Which is funny because my husband and I have never done much for it! But I love a theme, so. I made probably the prettiest sugar cookies I’ve ever made, and hidden-heart cake. And blondies.
💕Hearts hearts hearts! 💕 I love the Valentine’s Day aesthetic, for some reason, so my pottery is all hearts this time of year 🥰 This platter will get underglaze added to the hearts once it’s been bisque fired!
Cloud and sun breads*, getting ready to become French toast *challah and pandoro, respectively
Finally made it back to the pottery studio today after months - burnout + vestibular neuritis (which has interfered with driving) have kept me away, but it was so good to be back! And Finley (the neighborhood cat who has adopted the studio) remembered me 😊 #pottery
And, finally, here’s the Christmas morning (cinnamon almond) coffee cake. Merry Christmas! 🎄
