Meetings finished up early today so managed to get out and explore the city a little (by which I mean check out the bookstores). 3 km walking in and visits to 2 great bookstores - Octopus Books and Black Squirrel Books in Ottawa. Time to relax with a book and a beer.
Having major trouble adjusting to Housekeeping from Stephen King and Joe Hill. I keep expecting something supernatural to happen and have to remind myself it isn’t that kind of book. Loving her language so far but it’s a jarring transition.

These are the good old days MAGA would like us to return to. From Ragtime by E. L. Doctorow. This is the world of The Jungle, of unfettered capitalism with the wealthy (even more fully) controlling the police, the courts, and the government. Things are bad enough now, we don’t need to go backwards.

In the month of July I read 12 books. Six of those were for my reading challenge. This makes 2 months in a row where I haven’t met my 10-11 books necessary to finish my challenge. This wipes out my lead and I now need to put a push on to stay on track. 📚💙

I’m not coming into this blind and I’m certainly not shocked by the history presented here, as many of Dee Brown’s readers would have been when this was first published in 1970, but I have just been so angry and sad every day since I started reading this 10 days ago.
Levin is a master of suspense. This is a taut, spare, thriller narrated perfectly by Simon Prebble. Can’t stop listening.
Both these roosters are beautiful and friendly but having two roosters can be challenging. The big boy on the right is still young and awfully hard on the girls and our other fella has to work hard to keep him in line.
Listening to the audiobook of The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell and I can’t understand why no one has turned this into a film or a series yet. I can only assume that Mike Flanagan hasn’t read it yet.
